Wear indicator connector??
Anyone know what this part is called i.e. the round cylindrical receptor in the center of the picture below -i.e the non-pad end of the sensor wire ? Anyone know where I can get a spare ?
My '87S na 16v (without ABS) is missing one on the front - PO left a wire hanging there but I'd like to reinstate it if poss - all other wheels have the part. Can't see it listed on Pelican, nor 944online etc. Also not in the catalog. I guess I can strip the one shown to get the part no but haven't done so yet. BTW, on the pic shown, I think the lose wire should hook onto the bottom of the hub where the backplate is bolted on - is that correct ? Many thanks, John

Hi John. The part you seem to describe is actually a moulded plug, it has no part number by itself and doesn't come off the rubber cable. However, the whole cable can be replaced (expensive!). The part numbers are 944 612 107 00 & 944 612 108 00 for the two sides, your Porsche parts supplier should be able to help you work out which one you require.
Looking at the cable it does look like the ABS version - does it have 4 connectors in it? The non-ABS version was flatter and had only 2 connectors for the wear indicator. The brown lead is a ground cable, it should have a flat round bolt-through connector on it. This then bolts onto the strut at the same point as the plastic bracket that holds the connector. Here is a photo of a non-ABS clip and cable (it is a rear one, but they are the same design). ![]() Hope this helps.

Hi Rhett.
Thanks for your reply - most useful. The part does have 4 connectors on it - I cleaned up the one in the picture and it has a 'number' printed on the side - "ABS057", which seems to back up what you said, however, ABS is not fitted - its not on the options list and the fuses are missing for it. I put the part-nos you gave into pelican and the cable is around the $100 mark - not the cheapest part I've come across - I may try a breaker in the UK to see if I can get a used one. Anyhow, many thanks for your help. Kind regards, John PS > that pic you posted - is that your car ? if so, the parts look new - if that's what the brakes look like, I'll bet the rest of the car is a must-see? :-)

Hi John, glad to help. Used cables are going to be difficult to find as the covering is rubber and as it ages it gets brittle and breaks, exposing the inner cables. What I did when faced with that problem was get a set that had good connectors on it and then replaced the cable with a two-core PVC flexible one. Neat soldering and heat shrink and it all looks good and works fine - just an idea?
If you are interested, I posted quite a few photos in this thread: restoration how far Have a trawl through that to see the work I carried out on my S.

I got tired of trying to insert new brake pad wear sensor because the plastic on the ends kept breakiing. So I just jumpered around the system by soldering the wires together and heat shrinking the exposed wires. I don't need the warning system anyway since I keep track of the wear on my pads (old school).

Thanks again Rhett for the advice - a good idea - I'll try and see if I can go that route - no promises! - I may just take the easy route and get a new one.
I was looking through your posts on that thread you gave. All I can say is "wow". You truly have set the bar on renovation. How did you get your parts so clean before painting? sandblasting? As you can tell from my post, my car will probably not reach the heights that yours is aiming for. Having said that, if I can get halfway as good as yours, then it'll still look good :-). I think you must work in the motor-trade as you seem to posses all the necessary skills. Your posts are a useful resource to be sure - Many thanks again. mytrplseven - I think the PO had attempted to do that already but something's not right. I may follow this route as a temporary measure, at least to get it working. As you say, old school is fine - I'm never going to be doing high miles in my car in any case (and my pads are new), however, I'd like to get it back working as it was meant to be (if I can). Many thanks to you both, John

Hi John, thanks for the compliments on my work - appreciated! Actually, I don't work in the motor trade in any capacity; I am an electronics engineer by profession currently working as a Technical Author. However, I have been turning the spanners since I was a kid...I guess that helps!
As far as cleaning goes, no I didn't use a sandblaster on any parts. It was all small wire brushes, emery cloth, wire wool, degreaser and elbow grease! I hope you achieve great things with your 944 - all the best!
