944 Central locking question?
Hello!
I was wondering if anyone here can answer some questions about the central locking system in 944s. I acquired an 87 944S earlier this year that did NOT come with the central locking option. I’m in the process of adding an aftermarket power central locking setup. It has an provision for adding a switch and, (wanting to maintain a factory appearance) am wanting wire this system up to the factory central locking switch on the center console. I just received the switch ( again, not having factory central locking option, I have no frame of reference to how the switch is supposed to function) but the switch only has functions in one direction. Versus something with a lock/unlock function. So my question is, when you press the factory switch, does it lock or unlock? Or does it do both, lock/unlock. Thanks, silly question but again, without having in on my car, I don’t know how it’s supposed to function. Has anyone else happened to wire up an aftermarket lock system to a factory switch? I can't really help you with your issue but my 944 has a generic aftermarket central locking and it is linked to my car alarm so I can lock/unlock with my key fob.

Yeah, it’s looking like the aftermarket central lock actuator module can either be hooked up the the keyless entry/alarm system or two a locking switch, but not both which frustrating because obviously you’d want the keyless entry fob functionality, but I ALSO would like to retain a factory “appearing” locking system switch… ARRRGGGGGH!

google "944 vol5-electrical" and you should find the factory circuit diagram book for the car. My cayman has a similar switch, I guess the computer just knows which position it is in locked vs. unlocked.

Same switch Locks and Unlocks. I doubt it will work for aftermarket options.

in my opinion when enginerrs decided to add power locks it increased unnecessary wiring, same with sunroof wiring and seat heaters.
anti thrft device added more, add igniion fob just adds even more. a simple anti theft device , hook u two three position switches , slect one postion where power runs through both switches in some selected positon. all other power wires go to the horn, any attempt to star the car puts power tto the horn instead of the fuel pump. as the driver you know where the switches are and what position they need to be in, all you need to do to prevent a theft is flip one or two of the switches, that makes it really hard for a would be thief to steal the car, It won't prevent entry. the horn may be wired such that the horm buton is a ground, easy enough to add an extra horn if that becomes complicated. a thief may know how to get to the ignitio switch wires and jump them or slidehammer the igition lock out but if he does not know about the fuel pump beimg switched, hell likely just get stuck, sound the horn , becoem cofused fast, and leave. the other way to steal a car is to get ahold of the owner's key.. the simole fuel pump switch prevents that from working out. as soon as he turns the key he sounds the horn and it will not start. removing all this totally unnecessary electrial stuff is likely impractical, bit I see it all as more of a possible cause of unnecessary electrical issues, than an asset. |
