Need Help with 85/2 944 No Start
I'm some what new to the Porsche craze. I was trying to be a great husband and buy my wife a replica of her first car which was a 1985/2 944 2.5L automatic to fix up to give to her for Christmas. It ran well for about 600 miles after I got it. Then I started having problems! Now I have to jump the DME relay for it to run and that's the only way it will start. I have done several minor things but still nothing. I could really use some help with this and would be really grateful to anyone that would like to help. Thank you in advance

Sounds like a pretty exacting replica...
Instead of jumping the DME relay, have you replaced it?

I have replaced it and can hear the injectors click but the fuel pump does not engage. I have went as far as changing the reference sensors and the fuel pump. In the process of the fuel pump change, I did find that I had no ground at the pump and had to run a new ground wire from ground point # 9.

You can find how to check the DMD Relay at the link below. The 944 is notorious for Grounds needing to be cleaned and the cause of vairous electrical problems. Speed Sensor needs to be set at 0.8mm. A good check list for "NO START" is below.

Make sure your new DME relay is the latest version. Check the part number on the housing and see if it matches the part number that Pelican is selling. Some of the after market units don't have a good track record of being reliable off the shelf.

Thanks for all of yalls help and info. You have really given me a great starting point to figuring this problem out. When I get a chance, I will check all of the info, including the relay part #, and I will let you guys know what's up. I've just been really busy at work as of late. I did notice though that when I push the jumped relay downward after the car is running, it wants to cut off. When I let off, it starts running again. Any thoughts?

Thanks for everyone's advice! Got it figured out this past weekend. It ended up being a loose hot on the battery terminal. But I did go ahead and check/clean all the grounds during this process.
Now the new problem that I'm having is if I leave the electric fan relay plugged up, I have a dead battery on the morning. The fans never shut off! I'm thinking it might be a bad cooling sensor but I'm not an expert. Any guidance would once again be much appreciated. |
