hello all, new member

hi there to all the front engine porsche owners. im a new member here(obviously) but ive had my 944 for goin on 4 years now. i didnt know this forum exsisted until today, so i thought id register. a few quicl details about my car....its an 83, white with black cookie cutters. tan leather seats front and rear from an 86 951 on brown carpet. ive been told its the sport model because it has a rear sway bar, but im not really sure. no power steering or power locks. i guess thats stripped for a porsche. i had an MSDS intake and a custom exhaust on it a while back but took it all off. currently it sits awaiting me to finish the clutch job on it. its a neat car and it serves me well as a fun daily driver.

Welcome Singular Person (Individual)

What part of the country do you find your feet hitting when getting up?

How far apart is your 944?

How do you latch the upper part of the back seat in your 83?

i live in a town called Mobile Alabama. my 944 sits with everything underneath it removed except for front suspension. trans, driveshaft, rear susp. are all taken out. im waiting on parts to rebuild my driveshaft then i can put it together. problem is i also have another car(87 mazda RX-7 turbo) that i work on constantly, so i dont have a lot of time to work on it. i had to do a little custom rigging to get the 86 leather onto the 83 backrest. it was a while back that i did all this but i seem to remember swapping several parts around. it wasnt that difficult though

a fellow southerner!

Hail, Bammer man, the reason you didn't know this bbs was here is because it's hard to make a download stick on an abicus! (displaced Arky here, our T.V. was made out of sticks and bailin wire) Why don't you post a picture of your '44? or at least let Jed give us a chalk sketch. Let me be the second to say:"welcome! You'll find many little bits of great advice on maintaining and fixing your P-car here, tho none of it will be comming from me*. Like a proud dad, I gotta show of my baby to the newcommers. Enjoy the boards!

944's went to the pillar mounted pin (long bolt) in 84. The 83 I drive has a cast aluminum catch that a bent rod engages on each end of the seat back. This may have been a mid 83 modification. Either way I have the "older" method of latching the upper back seat.

Thought you might have found a way to adapt the newer to the older.

Didn't realize you just swapped the upholstery.

well it was 4 years ago that i did all this. i cant really remember how i did it. i know i didnt pull the leather off one seat and put it on the other. it was easier than that. i seem to remember having to screw some wooden peices in that came out of the 951 seat. the car isnt here at my house right now but next time i get to the car ill look to see how i did it. should be within a few days or so.

Welcome to the group.

The "sport model" came in two options.

Sport model A: Boge shocks/struts, rear sway bar, alloy wheels (usually fuchs, but sometimes cookie cutters)

Sport Model B - started in 85.5 and up: Bilstein shocks/struts, Limited Slip Differential, M030 suspension, rear sway bar, fuchs wheels.

I installed the rear seat out of an 89 951 in my 83. There were no modifications to do except for buying the two "pillar mounted pins" from a local junk yard for $10.00.

Hmmm. Did you also get the part of the pillar that had the welded in "hard points" (nuts) for the pins?
