if the tooth count is the same, then the length of the belt must be a wee different (hard to measure with accuracy), since it is obvious that the pitch of the teeth on the belt does not match the cog (unless the error is localized; Is the mis-fit you noted existent ANYwhere on the belt or just at certain orientations?)
I would now like to learn how a belt is made, I presumed they were EXTRUDED as a finished size loop, then sliced to width. Counting teeth, it took 25 teeth more or less ( belt has shorter pitch) to go from seated ( at timing mark), climb out of mesh, then back to seated again just over half way around. A pitch error of 1/25, scary that exists. The damn lawyer on my left shoulder keeps saying if the belt is positively marked correct PN for the application, run it , ruin your head and get the manufacturer to fund a new one. |
matt - pm me the link to the pic you had posted earlier, so i can see again how you were comparing them, and i'll have you send me the belt. i will then figure out what is going on about it. i remember seeing the pics, but i am having a hard time imagining it not being right. gates are better belts, but everybody has a bad batch now and then. same thing with hoses.

OH yeah? Contitech makes better belts. Sounds silly eh? That's because the argument can't be proven beyond the sample here and personal experience.
Except... This company uses Contitech as an OEM supplier for timing belts: http://cdn-4.motorsport.com/static/i...27334/s1_1.jpg You may recognize them... They just took 1st and 2nd at LeMans. Along with Mercedes, Vauxhaul, BMW, Ford... http://www.continental-direct.com/contitech.html |

Porsche/Dayco/Megadyne?
Looking at the writing on the Porsche belt in gtgt_bangbang's photo and Googling isoran RPP and came up with Megadyne ISORAN RPP | Megadyne Group. It appears that Dayco uses a Megadyne belt for this application.

Yep... I've seen it too.
http://arnnworx.com/images/944/Belts/DSC03698.JPG http://arnnworx.com/images/944/Belts/DSC03685.JPG I posted it on RL, (this was years ago) and later I got an email from someone that said something like the very early belts were different. I knew there were some differences in width but it didn't really add up and I never looked deeper....Bruce |
