Debate on the choice of sealant or that the green gasket is pre-sealed?

Before I bought the '88, local shop "Becks" installed a rebuilt oem WP and seal. They used a red color sealant on the black gasket.

I did spend a lot of time deciding whether to replace the pump at the same time and left it in. I compared the play on the shaft and condition of the Porsche brand pump to a rebuilt I have on the shelf. Time will tell...
