I disagree with your 911 owner observation, however You've proved my point precisely on a previous statement of mine...Peace y'all...

stock for stock a 911 will do things that would make a 944 driver cry...i know because i am that 944 driver.

built to the same power/weight ratio with comparable suspension/brake setups, it might be closer. you either need a fancy 944 or a badly driven 911 for the fofo to overtake.

Oh, that's right..........it's already been done =))

This question has drifted off track a bit (911 handling joke),as said engine in rear - engine in front ,its just so different.
Porsche has spend HUGE amounts in design money taming the tail heavy 911 since the mid1960's to the current models.
I'am not running down these cars , the 911 is a legend car I just like 944's and am lucky to own one.

this is an interesting debate. It reminds me of what happened to the Honda NSX.
The 911 probably wins this. Porsche wouldn't continue producing it if they made the 944 faster.

You can make any car more powerful. You can't make every car corner though.

Also as far as weight distribution goes, weight shift has an important effect so a 50/50 car isn't under accel. and braking where it matters most.

Accessibility of handling is also an interesting variable. 911's are more prone to sliding out and take more practice. When mastered though they are very very fast, there is no discounting that.

I believe porsche could make the 944 handle equal or greater then a 911 but chose not to because it isn't designed to compete at the same level

Define "better" ?

Different? sure.

Are some drivers more comfortable in one or the other? sure.

What really sucks about this forum is that I'm in florida where it's flat and the roads are straight. If it wasn't for Sebring we'd have no fun at all. I hate having to drive to Georgia to really enjoy my cars roadability. Boo Hoo

Some people try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

I hear you, I'm in Palm Beach FL, so have Morosso in my back yard. Other than that I hammer it on the traffic circles and the long sweeping on and off ramps off of I-95. But that's about it Need to move back to England and re-learn how to scrape ice off my windshield...maybe not!

Neither was any other car on that track, including a newer 911 which was out handled on that track.
