help! passenger door alignment

1984 944, I recently had an accident. Damaged my passenger door. I found it more cost efficient to just buy a new door. After about 4 1/2 hours me and my auto teacher gave up. He said go to a body shop, but I dont have any money for that. Any ideas on how to get the door aligned? If I loosen the bolts I can get the door to shut so I know that it does fit. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the A pillar is tweaked. Take a few measurements comparing it to the other side.

Did you replace the hinges as well?

Nothing was damaged but the door, I spent a few hours in the -5 degree weather today, it still feels stiff but the door opens and closes without rubbing -visibly- I hit a tree with my passenger side going 30 and nothing was damaged but the door. The a pillar looks fine, and I did replace the hinges too. I left all the screws for the door at school so I have yet to put any thing in the new door.

It sounds strange but some doors just do not fit. I tried to replace a dented door on my race car and the new door just would not line up correctly top to bottom no matter how we adjusted it. I tried another door and it fit fine. Go figure as neither new door was damaged.

That is true, not all doors line up the same. These are some of things I do to line up a door. Sometimes I can use the weatherstripping by bending the channel it goes on or a strip of metal in the rubber to push it out. A body spoon also works great to knock down high edges. If you have to paint the door you can work the edges with a body spoon and hammer to line it up flush.

Looks like you wacked it very close to the A pillar/ door hinge interface. If you have to loosen bolts then I second Rasta with possible A pillar tweak. Have you tried to shim the hinge after loosening the bolts and then snugging everything up? Lots of luck and don't give up. Keep us posted with your progress.

Brought the car back to my schools garage, all that is left to be done is to rewire the electric Windows. And get the mirror fixed. Question? Does anYone know what the mirror is made of? I want to weld the little metal piece that stops the Torx screw from falling through, or any suggestions?

I'll try to get you guys some pictures tomorrow morning
for now enjoy this, lol
