Strut sensor? on 85.5

I have an 85.5 944 non turbo project and there are what seem to be sensors clipped on my struts in the front and the harness side seem to be snipped by cutters on both sides any info on what these are and if they have anything to do with it not running would be greatly appreciated !!!!

The struts probably came from a car that has ABS sensors.

Yeah, looks like the pad-wear sensor connectors.

Any idea why both sides would be cut and if that would have anything to do with it not started

because lazy, or too cheap to put new pad wear sensors in. Shorting them turns off the warning light on the dash. It would be unrelated to a no-start.

I don't think being lazy or cheap has anything to do with it. I've tried in vain numerous times to replace sensors on brake calipers and the damn things always break, no matter what procedure I've tried. At some point you just give up and do what his PO did and move on.

Some people try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

I broke one or two but eventually got to where I could install them successfully. In some cases the pad slot is too small or has too much paint on it and needs to be relieved. One pad usually wears more than the other so you can practice on the less important pad, or stub them and stay way ahead on maintenance. I'd be a shame to find you are down to metal at the top of a mountain some day.
