Valve Guides
During a recent valve job the shop I took it too decided they didn't like the way the stock OEM guides fit into the head, spo they bougth some 'blanks' and 'machined' some new guides to use that 'fit better'. Aside from charing me out the ass for this 'service', I have a few other questions about the procedure as this is a new one to me.
First, I know I should fight this on principal, but will these guides be better than standard OEM guides? Will they be reliable? If I decide to keep them should I ask about a warranty? If so for how long? What other issues may arise from this? Thanks in advance. -S

The guides should be as good or better than oem.
The guides do not handle very much stress. I have seem them do this. Specially on custom jobs where there are no replacement parts. On occasion a guide will get severely damaged and they will replace them all with oversized ones if they needed to machine the head to sit the new guides properly. If not they will make them. It can be costly as you have found out. It should last just as long. I wouldn't worry about the longevity of the guides.
