rust in fuel tank

1983 944, can the metal tank be updated to plastic without a hassle?

Garage
Nope, the plastic tank is a different shape. Removing the tank is lots of fun, especially without a garage (ask me how I know). Also, be prepared to replace lots of stuff if you move ahead with this project as many small parts (mounting hardware, clamps, hoses, etc.) may be difficult to reuse. I spent over $700.00 last year just in replacement hardware which included the above as well as new transaxle mounts. If you decide to perform this, please PM me as I have a template and some appropriate foam material that glues to the tank filler neck area (Porsche doesn't carry that part anymore).

How about not dropping tank and cleaning from fuel level sender hole?
