The transition from the 6R to the 8R pan happened sometime during the 1987 model year. Check your pan's part number to see which one you have. Either pan can be used on all models of 944 as long as you use the matching oil pump pick up tube. While the pan is off, you should always install a NEW pick up tube as these have a known failure (cracking) history. Also, the provision for the turbo oil return line may or may not be drilled and tapped on certain NA cars, the factory just installed a plug in certain NA applications when the pan had the turbo drain provision.

The pan was purchased sometime in the mid 1990s.
