WTB Turbocharger for 931
Hi All,
I'm looking to buy a GOOD turbo for my 931. Please let me know what you have, and what you're wanting for it. Thanks, Mitchell (952) 288-7886 |

You should also post on 924.org and contact member ideola (here or on 924.org)
Also, you should specify if you want a S1 or S2 turbo. Cheers

Two good condition S1 turbochargers available here.
Ideola's Garage: Used Exhaust Parts for Porsches I *might* have a usable S2 as well, but will have to check the stash.

Hi,
I believe it's a S2. I have a 1982 931. |

So the key questions are:
1. Why do you want to stick with the S2 turbocharger? It produces less power than the S1, runs out of boost sooner. If you have any inclination of adding power (e.g., by using a boost controller to increase boost pressure, adding an intercooler, adding water-meth injection, etc.), then it would be silly to stay with the S2 unit. S1 would be better choice. 2. If you're going to go the considerable trouble of removing the turbocharger, why would you trust a used turbocharger? Replacing the turbocharger is a significant challenge. Even if you were to purchase one of my used units (regardless of S1 or S2) ... or anyone else's for that matter ... I couldn't in good conscience advocate for installing it without having it professionally rebuilt.

Interesting Questions.
1) I am looking to buy a good AND rebuild it, OR buy a rebuilt one BEFORE I start disassembly, so I can get it back on the road sooner. 2) I was really happy with the performance that I had with the car's original turbo. (It IS the original, the car has 60,000 miles on it) I'm not sure what the differences are between the two turbos. |
