Looking for asistance in locating a 5.0

I posted this over on Capito-list and my post was deleted. I guess if your not the site owners personal ATM you can't ask for help from the membership.

I'm sending out a request for asistance in locating either possibly a 4.7 block or a 5.0 My fresh engine went south. I don't need the whole engine. A short block will work. I'm in MN but will travel to save creating and shipping the beast.

I'm not sure what's wrong with my engine yet so at this point I'm gathering resources.

Rick, there are quite a few resources in the NE, but to get antennae up you need to have some more detail on what you need. If you want to make a hybrid, what you need is a 85/86 US 32v short block with a Euro S top end.

Despite what the "you must pay types" say, I suspect you will get all the support here you need.

I'll post more details as soon as I can. I plan on pulling the beast next weekend. I should be able to stay at it with out feeling like I'm going to puke by then. I did get a few nice leads before my post was deleted. There are some great guys over on the list. I posted a question about my thead getting deleted. Some guys flamed me. (maybe I'm being sensitive) Some guys were nice enough to simply explain the rule I violated.

I think I was a little pointed in my response there. But I can't delete it now.

I really don't mind joining a "club" (a real club) I've held several positions in office with other real car clubs in the past. I understand the benifit. But I don't like the concept of being forced to be someones personal customer. "I'll sell you jon doe's info if you both pay me" What's up with that...

Paying someone a fee for info someone else would share freely rubs me the wrong way. There are plenty of good vendors paying big money for the ad space.

Waynes always treated all of us with the utmost respect. I like this site. We buy parts if we need them. We tell stories and share ideas. No one gets deleted unless your rude or ofensive.

What puzzles me is that most internet forums, some with WAY more traffic, operate just fine free, and somehow rennlist is struggling while it nicks everybody it can for $18/year.

BTW I don't see that you were breaking the rules, you were not directly buying or selling, you were asking for recommendations of places that might have a motor.

Anybody else remember the early days of the net where buying or selling was generally forbidden?

I'm not sure what I started over there but it's up to seven pages and climbing. I guess I'm not the only one that thinks it's wrong to charge people to exchange information online. I mean why would you do it? And why would you pay it? There are so many great sites like this one out there that are free and offer more than the List.


Ok, I posted asking for sources for engines. I can see how this could be considered solictation for parts. Frankly I may have read the drivel in the rules a couple of years ago during a yawn. Who can say for sure. Besides most of the rules on these sites are a canned copy of everyone elses rules put up as a thin attempt at a legal shield.

So who takes those things seriously anyway.

BTW: I still haven't gone back and read or re-read which ever.... the so called rules. After the personal assault I wouldn't give that site a second look or my $ 18.00. I invited the moderators to delete the thread. Instead they chose to let it run it's course. If that's the type of action they want to be associated with they can have their pack.

The only way to understand Rennlist is to look back months or years. I didn't bother until after I was banned and ended up doing a bunch of searches to answer my questions instead of posting them, and found that I had opened up old wounds. The response you got wasn't just to what you posted, it included events weeks and months ago, Low Miler, Dozeman, maybe others I don't know about.

As long as you don't directly buy and sell, you can feel free to ignore the prodding to pay up and "support" the site.

However challenge not the precious rules, or expect to waste a lot of time on the issue.

There was a user named Danno a while back that was a R-list hero and sponsor that beat some members for money and then dissapeared. I think John D got involved but to what extent I am not really sure.

I pay the membership soley in support of John and Jen. who do a lot more for people than just run a web site.

And I can only comment on the Rennlist 928 vendors and my rating is "First Class" for both 928 Intl and Spec. We 928 owners are extrmely lucky to have them!

The saga continues... There still at it. One of the grippes is that by charging people you keep out the usless chatting and get more tech content. Well I guess my thread blew that theory.... I think I would be fun to start chit about every month or so just to see if you can make some old farts blood boil a little... or not.

$18 is nothing, its how they ask for it.

I resent rennlist acting as a tollgate for information that WallyP, Nichols, Pirtle, and others created and made freely available to the whole 928 community.

As practical matter though, I still send new people to rennlist because thats where the well is deepest when you have a 928 problem, but I make sure to give them a heads up on what to expect from RandyV and his minions.

You can read most posts, search via google, but until you register you can't post or see images hosted by rennlist or use forum search tools.

Registering is free.

Only paid members are allowed to buy or sell items directly, upload images, or access the member only areas of the forums such as off topic and member to member sales. Plenty of 3rd party sites will host your images free and just as easy as uploading to rennlist.

Pestering new people to "pay up" or post pictures etc. may seem rude and hostile, but its just newbie hazing, nothing personal and best ignored.

Read the new user sticky post at the top of the forum, its full of links and other stuff that may answer your question without asking it.

When you do ask a question, lay it all out, model year, repair history, and be as specifc as you can about what is going wrong. Expect to wait as long as 48 hours for the smart answers to start showing up.

Rich, stirring up purposely useless posting is called trolling. People do it or try to do it all the time in all kinds of forums, and it really fouls the well for people with odd but real questions. I was thinking freely one night about how to use the rear seats, possibly putting in something sideways with the persons legs going over the center hump. It didn't get much serious consideration.
