Anybody know what it means when its a 5 in front of the W instead of a 0?

15W40 instead of 10W40?

I think it means truck use only, did you read the everything on the plastic bottle?

Uh, I went with your suggestion. There was no 10w40 in Rotella. Sheeeit, does this mean I need to drain it out?

Note the at the bottom, just pulling your chain Leo.

I'm very happy with the Rotella T in all my cars right now.

As long as you don't over rev. The only oil related problem I have ever heard of besides the rod bearings is camshaft lobe wear on 32 valve engines, specifically the GTs. Extra ZDDP is good for preventing that, AFAIK.

Ok, up for another oil change. I'm heading to Walmart this week to pick up more Rotella T, unless someone advises me to full Synthetic.

How many Gallons do I need?

"Just stick Castrol in it!"

A mechanic once told me. I've used it for years, other than a stint last year using Delvac, which did nothing but cost more. I use 10W40 in Florida year-round; I found I use less of this than the 20W50 that I used to use.

Any good brand will work; some will tell you [correctly] that synthetic will stand up to high temperatures better than regular dino juice, but I suspect that M28's that are not turbocharged/supercharged, or not used regularly on the track...probably don't need it. Synthetic oil has been known to cause oil leaks in older engines as well.

Then again...it is more stabil at higher temperatures.

Basically, with oil, use the grade recommended for your climate and then pick the brand that has your favorite color on the bottle. You won't go wrong-

Agreed, Castrol! I use 20/50 in CA. for all my German cars and I put it in the MG as well.

What gas do you use? (another thread has this qestion). In CA it all has additives and I use 76 or Chevron supper (not really supper at 91).

I use 91 from Chevron (actually another gas company now in same location), oh it's Vallero. I know I don't need to since I don't have high compression, but i just feel safer using it. Sometimes I'll throw in mid-grade stuff.

Personally, I think you can't go wrong with the Rotella T. I use 15W40 in my ATVs, Motorcycles, trucks, tractor etc. That being said, I'm using Valvoline Semi Synthetic 20W50 in the 928 presently.

I use CHEVRON. Occasionally, when I am running way low and am concerned about making it home....I will use CHEVRON.

[I never let my tank go below 1/4~]

-If you go to a quarter-mile track and ask the kids with their Honda's, Subaru's, and Mitsubishi's what gas they are running you will just hear a chorus of the word "Chevron". The Techron additive has slightly better burn characteristics compared to the other brands;

That's all good and fine; What makes a REAL difference in performance is the driver, not the fuel.

Well, a Mitsubishi Evo with Chevron with my Stupid dumb looking Chocolate Labrador driving it can beat a 928 in a 1/4 mile

The most important consideration is the right zinc content.
I only use Mobil 1 15w 50 or my prefered oil is Royal Purple 15W 50.
Lots and lots of very clever testing done with oils in 928's in Australia by Doug Hillary.
Zinc, zinc and more zinc.

Great input...would you mind educating us as to why? chemical reaction that allows zinc to...

Just interested! It is the engineer in me.

This was taken from Royal Purples website:

Quote:
Do your motor oils contain zinc and phosphorous?

Yes. All Royal Purple engine oils contain the zinc/phosphorous compound zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate (ZDDP) and are suitable for both roller and flat tappet valve trains.

Can your oil be used with flat tappet cams?

Yes. For stock or mildly modified flat tappet valve trains (<.525” lift), we recommend our SAE 10W40, 15W40 or 20W50 engine oils. In applications with flat tappet valve trains using high-lift cams and/or high RPM applications, we strongly recommend upgrading to our XPR line of engine oils as these have an even greater concentration of ZDDP providing excellent protection with the higher spring pressures. For a viscosity recommendation, contact our Tech Dept. at 888-382-6300.

Hmm.

-Upon considerable reflection, I have to say that I do not think it is a good idea to let a chocolate labrador to sway my finals....
-A chocolate lab is such a beautiful dog! Sorry, I can't have one.

iThat is what you get-

Well, Conrad Kalitta owns the land around the airport. He can be excused if he throws your system overboard. Your mangled body is now eaten by sharks.Me personally, I keep my dock "substance only", which means that the "INDy" NEW-HIRES are here in Irelando.
