One of those questions I ask myself while pondering work on the suspension, will removing this bolt make something fly loose and smack me. When I am not 100% sure I don't proceed until I know what to do. I am even more reluctant to advise others, unless I have a camera handy.

How about if I let you remove that last bolt and I will have my Digital Video Cam rolling?

Ok, the pictures look like a single (bigass) pin holding the lower coil over. I also noticed that the rear axle is left to just hang down. Then the only thing left after pin is removed, is the 3 bolts in the rear hatch area. This was an example from an S4, will an OB be the same? Also, which shocks came on OB's? Boges? Any links to replacements? Are there any other brands know to work well?

I did this job without removing the brakes, rotor, caliper, etc. As I recall, it is out lined in the repair manual pretty well (for a change). Just be sure to take note of the washers and cone-shapred washers that come off when you pull out the pivot rod. Fun figuring out where they go otherwise...

I've bought Bilsteins for all my 928's all the way around, 83 and 85 Euro, but only have one strut installed so far, but I have done it couple times now. (wrong spring). Its almost next on my list of stuff to get finished up.

I've also got a set of original factory non adjustable Bilsteins for an early car, but not sure what I will do with them yet, maybe sell to someone that wants a hot, but original sport setup.

Check out page 3,4,5 of this PDF document of our Rear Sway Bar Installation Document for some tips on removing the rear shocks.

conclusion

i did it you first have to remove the back dust plates off the rear the holes that u see underneath shoot wd40 in there because rust will keep the pin from sliding through now that the dust covers are removed note caliper must come off and rotor you will see the other nut tap it lightly as to not damage the threads 2 hr job once you figured it out yes the shock and spring will drop down you can menouver it without having to disconnect the rear drop links after you removeed the 3 bolts on top that is holding the shocks to the frame. a little intimidating at first but once you done it youll never firget how to do it again you will also need the adjusting wrench for the spring height and an alignment thanks for everyones support

Pinto. removal of the caliper and rotor and backing plate isnt necessary.

Also remove the lower sway bar mount bolts for each side this will assist in removing the shock assembly
Simply remove the nut from the front link pin and slide it out the back.
Roll the pin on a flat surface to make sure its straight.
Swap out the shock noting the lower mount point is slightly bent so it must line up with the pin. ( the lower shock mount can be put on the wrong way but it should be obvious as to how it looks)
Use a good amount of anti seize on the pin when you install it , use thick grease to hold the beveled washers into the hub, slide the pin in put the thick washer in place then through the lower shock mount then through the hub support ( with both of the bevelled washer installed) then through the front portion of the control arm.
