Replace Headliner Project Part 2

If you have been following my Headliner thread from a few months back. All didn't work well as any type of adhesive I tried to use over my old vinyl failed to hold and I was wearing the vinyl headliner rather than my car.

Ok, this time I did some research on how the pros do it and I was way off. I tried to keep my old vinyl attached, which is a no go.

Here's what I did:

1) Removed old vinyl
2) Removed "ALL" old foam underneath with an orbital sander
3) Fixed all indents from previous repairs
4) Used 3M Trim Adhesive, which is the strongest of the bunch
5) Bought some Fabric Headliner with Foam Back
6) installed per directions.
7) Got to use my handy dandy air stapler with 5/32" staples. 1/8" would have been more perfect, but are hard to find.

Here's the Pics

Nice work. Very inspirational for me to tackle my headliner.

Did you stick the main part of the bottom, then the edges and staple?

Staples didn't go through the inside of headliner?

How did you get the main part to "form" fit?

Instructions say to gently work into the curves and "NOT" to stretch the material. Basically working center to the edge and slowly working the curves. Adhesive holds it down nicely. Staples are just there to make sure it never pulls out from the sides. Staples barely come out the other side, which is why I said 1/8" would have been perfect. You would have to really try and cut yourself with the staples on the other side and I was unwilling to try

your panel looks good, not that you didnt do work on it to make it so, but nice solid piece to work with. NICE JOB!!

I see ur boss and supervisor over there on the right, making sure u get the job done right. Your pets must love you soooooo much.

whats the grey stuff, ?, the blk clips holes get so ruined , i wouldnt mind restoring a few of them hatch, headliner, door panels, and some new clips should be much betta.
Fix with what, spot putty? redrillable? could do glassing on them, what evers left of the hands, the 3m glue outta take care of. thats some fun goop, there !! LOL

The board holes gets so badly damaged with time and PO rev ovals that I just Epoxied them shut (all new Porsche OEM clips) and used Fiberglass Bondo to make them smooth. Yup, took a couple years for my cat to warm up to my Chocolate Lab.

Thanks Glen. My interior is almost complete. I even installed the lower passenger shelf a couple days ago. She also drives a lot better now.

Oh Yeah! Buttoned it up a couple hours ago and it came out Niceeeeeeeeeee! Took it out for a drive in the rain with the heater working (another thread) on the freeway and it sounds so much better with a complete interior in place. No need for a radio, the sweet sounds of rumbling V8 was my music for the night. Too dark for good pics, so it will have to wait till tomorrow.

I thought I would finish this thread out with a final pic. I guess the sun is washing out the photo, but you get the idea.
