VIN # / options code
Hey guys, I've seen some talk of checking VIN #'s and options codes. I've been to a few places on the web to try to run it but my car is an early 78 and my VIN starts with 928. It keeps getting rejected as a valid VIN. Any advice? I'll post the VIN here if it helps but I left it off for now because I wasn't sure if some euro Porsche would steal my Porsche's identity......He he he just kidding. Any advice is appreaciated...................Nix

Early 78 there may be nothing but a paper record buried someplace in Porscheland. Rixter and one or two other guys on Rennlist can sometimes pull a rabbit out of a hat, but could be why their trick still works is that few know about it.
![]() Many times an Autocheck.com will work if you put 7 blank spaces in front of the vin, but that says nothing about options. |

I haven't figured out a means to get 78/79 model year VIN details out of PET7.. not sure they're in there, but I'd exhausted all the various combinations I could come up with to get a VIN out.
Annoyingly, I managed to get all the MY80 VIN's to look-up just fine (they use the same old style VIN as 78/79 from before the standard 17-digit one was introduced). If anyone does succeed in getting vehicle-specific details on *any* 78/79 cars out of PET, please let me know the VIN that worked.. I'd like to complete my data-set to include all the 77-79 cars.
