Yeah, but Jaguars have really plummeted in value and the 8 series is slowly becoming a collectible youngtimer - at least that is the tendency in Europe. In the UK, four to five-year-old Jag XJ's can be had in the £10K area.

Ok on all in your area. The Jag I mentioned is a special one I believe and it was pristine from what I was told. I don't really follow the market on cars much. I only wish I had kept the ones I owned over the years. Several are worth a lot today. Just saw a new Jag down the block here and it looked pretty nice. As for value, the whole darn U.S. has plummeted in value.

-I love the way the 850 looks, but have little interest in BMW's. Nice cars, but they don't raise my heart rate the way that Porsche's and VW's do. That V12 caught my interest, however.
I did some research: The V12 engine has had BAD reliability problems. Mostly centering on the cylinder head- sounds strange, but the intake gaskets are the weak link on that engine. What's more, this 4100 pound car [Heavier than a Lincoln Mk 8] only had about 300 hp, and it all occurred near the top of the rev range, making the car feel far slower than it was. A far better idea is the 840, who's V8 engine had NO reliability issues, sounds better, and performs about the same. I'd go for the 928. 800 pounds lighter, more of a performance machine, DEFINITELY more hard-core! And a decent cruiser to boot. And it looks better- N! |

I went with a 928 many years ago that I still have but the 850 lways fascinated me...reminds me of an early 90's shootout: 850, XJS, 928, 560SEC
Both thye 850 and 928 have a very 'what the heck is that' appeal...but in terms of performance/functionallity/driving experience, I adore the 928. The car is anorexic compared to the 850, and unfortunately has x2 of every part (ecus, fuel pumps, ect). I had a similar BMW moment when deciding to get an e24 M6 after having an e28 535 that had served me very well. With all the talk behind to e24, I was definetly disappointed with the experience because of the weight. Both cars are awesome autobahners, and the 850 in my opinion is a less seen and more modern as a counterpoint (and the v12 is unbelieveably smooth)...at the end of the day its your call |

GOOD LORD CHARLEY! WHAT A CAR!!. I took out the 850i today. and I have to admit. as a GT car. it's on par with the 928 of that year. the engine is SUPER smooth at speed, and the gear change is slick, and the clutch is smooth. this ones been taken care of, but it needs a good service. oil, plugs, it needs some new Rims and Tires, because the clear coat is peeling. and it's just got the usual stone chips and a few little dings from stones. but in all a clean CLEAN car.

I figured I would add some two cents. The Tomaso is ( really nice. )
I have worked on and driven a number of 850's and they are really cool machines. Quite sophisticated for their time. They are space-ships, and they do float and feel comfortable on long distance drives. You just want to find a very well sorted one, the V12 if not up-kept will sting. It's a V12 and when in mint operation and trim, it's an amazing car. I do think of the 928 as a more nimble more GT esq machine. Comfortable too. Smooth performance, a different kind of kick from the BMW's V12. As for the SC400, cool but they only come in automatic, now for a daily driven car that's fine. However I'd honestly rather if I was going the Japanese route, then I would recommend the SC300, a hell of a lot cheaper and with that said the money could easily be invested in simply swapping over a 2JZ-GTE thus having a very quick machine. However, if you are looking at the 928, 850, you might be thinking Jaguar as well, or something British Aston? Depends on the budget too. Pay now or Pay in up keep. 928's do look very beautiful in Black, and White. I like Gold Wheels, but brushed Bronze is nice. Silver is a nice look on the 928. It's not the big things but the little things on these cars that just looks so right. The BMW is not a bad route but a very different machine.
