BBS will be stamped into the rim also, look for any markings you can find and post them. The outer piece is BBS, the 0484 is probably the date code it was manufactured.

MPDano 11-01-2011 06:21 PM

Yup, Neil is right. Most def was cut, you can still see the notches. So you have 4 of these?

whatudrivin 11-01-2011 06:31 PM

Gotcha neil. And yes I have 4 of these. Kinda sad after finding this out. But I still think they will look good. I will look for marking tomorrow when its light out and report what I find.

whatudrivin 11-01-2011 07:02 PM

Well here is an unteresting update. I decided I wanted to know now what the deal with my wheels is. Well I get out there and check all 4. 2 of them have this notch cut out and 2 of them are normal... The 2 normal ones have 265 50VR15s and the 2 with the notches cut are 245 50VR15s. And I thought tires were going to be hard to find with the 245s... Now I find out I have 265s too! hmmmm ...... Good thing or bad thing? I dont know yet. Anyways here are some pictures that I took while I was out there. Decided to grab the good camera.

Oh and there were no markings on any of the rims. They are a bit dirty so it's possible the markings might be buried under the dirt and grime. I will give them a good cleaning and see what it reveals. The chrome is flaking off both sets of rims.

-edit I have tried searching for the tires and it looks like i can find the 265s whereas I cannot find the 245s.... Now that just seems a bit odd to me.

There should be some numbers on the side of your tires to show the year they were made. You may be riding on some Grenades.

Danglerb 11-01-2011 09:18 PM

Date code is just out of the pict to the right on the 2nd to last pict in post 44, code is DOT xxxx xxxx mmyy

riber.bentsen 11-01-2011 11:49 PM

You do realize that there are two different rim sizes??

Fronts are 16 inches, rears are 15 inchers.

I'd say, with all the unknowns of these "BBS" wheels - chuck 'em, and forget. Refurbish the manhole covers, put on some brand new 225/50VR16 tires (original size) and ride in stock comfort...

whatudrivin 11-02-2011 05:41 AM

I forgot to say that those 16" rims are the stock rims. Not the other BBS rims. All 4 BBS rims are 15". I found a picture that shows the date code and it appears to just say '200' but I will verify this later. If thats the case they would be made in feb of 2000?

riber.bentsen 11-02-2011 07:22 AM

Ok, that explains a lot ;)

Still, the wrong size on those flat slotted discs, they look a bit large, too.

I forget exactly when, sometime around the turn of the century, the code changed from 3 digits to 4 digits.

From Wikipedia
Tire code - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
DOT code: All tires for use in the USA have the DOT code, as required by the Department of Transportation (DOT). It specifies the company, factory, mold, batch, and date of production (two digits for week of the year plus two digits for year; or two digits for week of the year plus one digit for year for tires made prior to 2000). Although not law, some tire manufacturers do not suggest using a "new" tire that has been sitting on the shelf for more than six years (Ford Motor Company) or 10 years (Cooper Tire citing a tire association recommendation).[citation needed] JATMA, the Japanese Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association recommends that all tires be inspected at five years, and all tires that were manufactured more than ten years previous be replaced.

Well I am now debating selling these BBS rims now that I know they are semi-faulty. If I was to sell how much should I ask for them? Im thinking of selling and using that money to get the car running then buy some new 225s till I can afford new rims... This is all just a thought right now.

MPDano 11-02-2011 03:25 PM

I would just sell them on eBay and make sure to post those detailed pics. Let the Auction start at 99 cents and let eBay tell you their worth. Just make sure to post shipping fees.

whatudrivin 11-04-2011 02:31 PM

I think I may do that. At least to see what the price is. I will probably set a reserve just to see what I can get so that I am not forced to sell in case I decide to keep them. I'm just curious how much they are worth. And I would want to get enough out of them to get my car up and running. Whether it will be drivable or not is TBD but I at least want to hear it run. And if I have to get a new fuel pump I am going to need at least $300. I have yet to check it. I might do so tonight actually. Im hoping that the rims having extremely rare tires that are pretty much brand new will help the value quite a bit.

MPDano 11-04-2011 02:38 PM

Yes, a Reserve is a smart thing to do. At the very least to get a value out of it. Your car WILL be drivable and safe. It just takes a lot of time and labor and a few ducketts. Be patient, we'll get you there.

whatudrivin 11-04-2011 06:04 PM

Oh I know. My first goal is to get it to run and I just found out that my fuel pump is toast. No movement what-so-ever. $200 right there. Till I get the money I am going to be cleaning the fuel tank. Hopefully doesn't take much.

What,
You oughta try to get to Marble Falls this weekend for the Third Coast Event. There will bw upward of 50 928s there and lot of knowledge floating around.

Lots of fun and stupid floating around, too.

whatudrivin 11-04-2011 09:04 PM

I wish I could but I already have family plans. I read about it and would love to go! I am hoping to be able to drive there next year in my Porsche. But I don't know if I will have the money to get it there.

onestar 11-05-2011 01:16 AM

when i had to buy my fuel pump i spent a little over 50$ i didnt buy a specific porsche pump but instead just a pump with the same psi it was a big money saver for me
