Missing cover under steering column?

My 81 Euro S does have the rounded cover directly under the steering column held down by two hex bolts. It has a small crack in it, so I'd like to replace it if I can find a good used one somewhere for not too much $$ (it's purely cosmetic and invisible unless you're on the ground).

On the PET diagrams, though, it looks like there is a second wider cover for the bottom of the dash pod which I do not have (part 928-552-321-02). Does anyone have a picture of this part (or better yet, an extra one of these you are willing to part with!)

I have two "unused" speed nuts (one next to the dash lights dimmer and the other next to the wiper delay knob) and also what looks like a threaded hole in the underside of the steering column visible through a hole in the rounded cover. Is this where this cover attaches?

Also, looks like there was a driver's side "shelf" added under the pod starting in 1982 held by brackets similar to the passenger side shelf that I do have. Can this be retrofitted and if so, is it worth the trouble?

Thanks.

Here's a picture. What screws in at the yellow arrows?

Hello Luis,

Those 2 speed nuts are what the thin plastic cover (part 928-552-321-02) gets attached to. It does give the bottom of the pod a nice finished look. It has slots for the adjustment wheels (dimmer and washer intermit) and a hole for the intense washer button to fit through.

I tried to take a picture of mine last night but our several year old camera doesn't shoot that wide at close distance.

Thanks, Raymond.
Do you know the size of the screws that hold the missing cover on?

I just used those misc black auto upholstery screws that you can get at Autozone on mine. The package is assorted so just pick the proper size from that.

Ok, looks like I'll be buying the missing cover and some appropriate interior screws to hold it up.

The broken steering column cover that I do have is NLA. Does anyone have a black one lying around they're willing to part with?

Also, can anyone measure out the middle bolt on the cover (the middle arrow on the pic). Mine is missing. It looks like its probably an M8. In Dwayne's dash pod removal thread looks like a phillips pan-head type. Can anyone confirm and give me the length?

Thanks!

Hey Luis,

You'll find that most of those screws have been changed out so many times by previous owners (multiple remove and reinstall of the Pod) that finding the exact one will be a problem. If you buy the assorted box of black interior screws as suggested, just find one that fits in the Cover (if you can find one) and into the screw hole. I'm pretty sure they we're screws and not bolts if I remember correctly.

If you can't find one here, 928 Intl should have one. The trick is finding one that doesn't have the plastic broken off the end of the bolt hole.

Used one at 928 Intl for $5?

I have both items from a car I had parted. Just shoot me an off through PM. The bottom cover is held with 2 phillips screws available at any hardware store.

I picked up a pack of screws like Leo mentioned, like what's pictured below but in black. I think it's the same size screw as what holds the console carpet strips in place, test one from there for fit and use it as a sample at the auto parts/hdw store if necessary.
