After reading all these posts i am less worried that Pres. Obama will be re elected.

Our credit rating was down graded!!! this man gets a pass on everything it's ****** unbelievable!

Have you all read or heard lately how his administration and the Democrats plan to allow the UN to begin taxing our internet (world redistribution from the U.S.!) and follow the UN to ban certain firearms in the U.S.?

They found a backdoor method to pass gun control thru the UN.
Very dangerous people, with too much power and the press covering for them for the most part..

They have also been saying that if we (The People) only spend 1 trillion + per year, every year, more this tax money can be re distributed to end poverty in the U.S..

Which it will not, i am sure of that. Just like welfare and the war on poverty has not worked with billions spent, welfare has ruined families for 40 years by removing the need for a Father in the equation.

They have good intentions (Democrats) (some is for power) but their ideas just do not work and there is now proof of that.

A much less important example : Low power US spec 928s for instance..They hate fun..they have been ruining cars since the 70s.

I used to vote D when i was younger, never again, the party seems nuts to me now.

I really hope i did not offend anyone, but the Democrat party is not what it was when JFK was President.

God i hope Romney gets elected.

Honest, I was not thinking political when I posted, just curious about what circumstances led to some family living on a hilltop with an ocean view and two new top of the line Porsche's in the driveway (plus an suv and something else).

For my daily dose of Obamatainment I visit The Last Refuge | Rag Tag Bunch of Conservative Misfits – Contact Info: TheLastRefuge@reagan.com but I am more a seeker of balance and opportunity than any specific political persuasion.

I like the fact that 928 ownership allows many of us a smooth relationship across vastly differing income levels.

Its weird i am 42, and was just a kid when Reagan was President.

I remember thinking because of the news at the time he was a nut job and paranoid about the Russians and didn't care about the poor etc..

I went on to a very liberal College and voted for Clinton twice and that idiot Al Gore which i really regret.

Now when i hear Reagan speak on the radio, his speeches give me chills, make the hair on my arms stand up. Now that was a great President.
The media tried to destroy him, but the people wouldn't let that happen, they knew better.

After Reagan fixed the Carter mess, remember the wealth of the mid to late 80s? Greed is good days

Porsche 930s with the side strakes were well over $100,000 then, not that they cost so much to build, because Porsche knew that people in the US could afford to pay it. That is a hell of a lot of money then.

My Dad thinks Romney will be as good or better for our economy as Reagan was.

I am beginning to think he is right. Enough said by me.

I served in the military during the Reagan years, and I can say that his obsession with combating worlds aggression by the Soviets and all their puppet states, caused me to have a much better lifestyle while serving.

He increased the wages of enlisted soldiers almost double. Back then as a buck private I was making $450 a month. He doubled that when he pushed to dethrone communism. He increased the financial assistance a military person can recive to further improve their lives. As a result I have an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering and a masters in business management

In addition he put a lot of money into the damn drug wars of that time. Literally saving countless civilian lives in the process. As far as I can recall in the civilian sector, things were not so bad.

When Clinton later was elected..he systematically dismantled the military and forced many good combat veterans out the door with a severance..not even letting them receive their duly earned pension (I am one of those, I know)

I believe the area you're refering to is Off Topic - Politics and Religion - Pelican Parts Technical BBS

As an aside, the truly rich folk frequently buy used (source: The Millionaire Next Store) or, if you're uber-rich, these babies:

When all was said and done, TrueCar compiled all that data to come up with a list of the most popular cars in America's ten wealthiest ZIP codes. Interestingly, eight of the ten are priced below $40,000. The models that didn't make the list are almost as interesting as those that did:

10. BMW X5
9. Toyota Camry
8. Honda Accord
7. Honda CR-V
6. Volkswagen Jetta
5. Toyota Prius
4. Lexus RX
3. Mercedes-Benz C-Class
2. BMW 328

And the most popular car in America's wealthiest ZIP codes is the...

1. Mercedes-Benz E-Class
(source: http://www.thecarconnection.com/news/1078334_what-do-the-1-drive-the-top-10-cars-in-wealthy-zip-codes)

So, who knows? Those Panameras might just be for sale soon. :-)

^ that's interesting. I think with the rich they are either a boat guy, plane guy, or car guy. All those would serve as great transportation for boat and plane guys. The rich need DDs too.

I live in one of those zip codes (Philly Main Line) a lot of Prii (Priuses)

I have seen 2 maybe three run out of gas, where they were being helped by someone in a more thirsty vehicle.

Do they hate gas so much they'd rather run out than re fuel?

One person who ran dry was talking a construction worker's ear off as he put a few gallons in her tank.

Those little cars really annoy me, most of them think they are saving the planet by driving them (around here) based on the bumper stickers they all seem to come standard with.

Liberalism really is about feeling good about yourself.

The Prius reference is still car talk, so the thread stays.

It is interesting isn't it? By the way, I heartily recommend reading The Millionaire Next Door. It turns out those who--should they liquidate their assets and pay off their liabilities and are left with at least 1m--are most likely to be contractors and have a 2-3 year old daily driver that tended to be Asian or German in origin but, they too, aren't driving 911s. The bottom line? They were frugal and worked for what they have.

One of the main findings in The Millionaire Next Door is that it is far easier and cheaper to impersonate a millionaire than it is to become one—and for most people, impersonation is enough. Thank heaven for CL.

Personally I like seeing electic and those little tiny high mileage cars. There's a lot of people that really don't care about cars other than for transportation. They ALL need those types of cars.. it leave more gas for our thirsty 928's and other people that love cars.

One of the guys I worked for once was a genuinely excellent human being. The sort of manager/business owner that knows how to motivate people, as well as create all the paperwork to attract investors and get bank loans. He personally started half a dozen companies, went broke 3 or 4 times, and helped to start maybe 100 more companies. He drove a minivan, didn't have a nice of a stereo as I do, but lived in a house well over $10m (because its what his wife wanted). Not exactly frugal, but aware of what things should cost and not paying over market.

OTOH this is the OC, and plenty are into shameless displays of wealth.

My opinion is that if you look carefully at the tax code it doesn't so much punish the rich as prevent people from joining the ranks of the truly rich. It punishes the working wealthy who are trying to get rich.

One of my friends here I have coffee with some mornings is quite wealthy. He was driving a $389,000 Maybach, a Mercedes, but now drives a Prius!!!!! He must be saving his money to pay the heat bill on his 15,000 sq. ft. house on the lake here or for fuel in his 55 ft. boat. It baffles me but he did mention once about being less noticeable.

Luxury!!! Why we dreamed about having an outhouse! You were lucky to have an outhouse! There were a hundred and fifty of us living in t' shoebox in a septic tank. I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us and dance about on our graves singing Hallelujah but not before rifling our pockets looking for loose change to put towards a used Porsche 928. And you try and tell non-928 owners of today that ..... they won't believe you!!!

Forgive me. I couldn't resist. And I do believe you. Really.

If you want to see a hilarious parody on "Pious, and Hindsight" drivers (Prius, Insight) Southpark did a good episode. My wife hates Southpark, (and regards it as rather low brow), but what the Heck, i'm kinda a knuckle dragger anyway.

There is actually a town called South Park in Colorado and I think the show was named after it. If you drive there make sure you are not over 25 mph, it's a big well known speed trap! The main street is about 3 blocks long.

I am challenged to believe that in this age someone would reference a 1 percenter not paying enough taxes and think it not to be a politically charged opinion.. "More freedom, less taxes." Who can disagree with that?

LOL!!

No worries - I totally get it!

Didn't mean to sound like a sob story, and I hope it didn't come across that way. I just meant to illustrate what opportunity this country gives us. But I work on my cars because I HAD to, so I know HOW to - and now I do it because I WANT to.

Trust me - I'm watching all of these folks leasing Panameras and just waiting for another year or two when then leases start coming due - my wife would LOVE to have one, and i would equally love to let her have one - just not at new car prices.

Well my fellow shark pilots, one thing we can all agree on .... due to the relative ignorance of the general populace, we at least have the privilege of driving a 1 percenter car
