Hard brake lines
Anyone know what the hard lines are made of?
Steel? Stainless? something else?

But not stainless?
I need to make two new lines, but rules in this country say I can't use a lesser material, Providing it's not stanless, I can make up with a cheap fleabay flaring tool, (which are not good with tube as hard as stainless.) 928 lines have some ferrous content, a rare earth magnet gets a faint hold,(on lexus brake lines, near impossible to get the magnet off.) Stainless USED to have 2 identifiers, non magnetic, and won't rust, nowadays, "stainless"(benchtops in particular) do both these things.

Dont know what country your in, but in the U.K. Kunifer is normally used for brake lines. Dont use copper as it can 'work harden' You can get st/st and plated lines in the U.S. but not tried to work with them.

In Australia, pure copper is a BIG illegal for brake lines on any road registered vehicle here , too soft/pliable for starters.
I will check out the Kunifer and see if it has an approval for use in Oz.Thanks.

I have used the cunifer brake line on two of my cars but not the 928. It is easy to double flare and bend. I have never seen pure copper line used for brake line.

Found this on another forum, basically ,how to identify cunfer lines.Is it possible that Porsche was using cunifer back in 1982? My lines look original, yet magnet contact is slight, very low ferrous content, same as described in the piece below.
Quote; Here is how the manufacturer instructed the technician determine the compositon of the line. First of all, he was instructed to polish the line the best he could. He then was told that if the line were cunifer the finish would be closer in color to 12K gold than to copper color like a new penny. When polished, ours was definitely much lighter in color than a new penny and close to the gold color. The final test was using a magnet. The cunifer contains a very small amount of iron. They had him use a very strong small magnet not attached to anything and had him pass the metal line next to or over the magnet. Our technician had a small round roller ball magnet from a child's toy in his tool box and he placed it on a plastic cap from a paint can to get it away from any other metal. He then placed the suspect line close to it but not touching it and the magnetic ball rolled toward the line. According to the manufacturer of the cunifer line there is not enough iron in the line for the magnet to latch onto it as a magnet does steel but enough for it to detect it and what they call "kiss" it. This might explain why the magnet tests done on other lines may or may not have determined what the line really was. The magnet test he did would have been very difficult to do under the coach. Having removed the line made it much simpler to perform.

according to the manufacturer Kunifer/cunifer is factory fiitted to Porsche cars, Anyone know from what year?

A friend of mine here had a Maybach. I think it was about $398,000. He got tired of taking it in for service, they would keep it two days updating all it's computers.
