odometer rebuild
Hi guys,
Like many of you, I did the odometer fix with the new gear which worked for 500km and then stopped. This time it wasnt the gear that was problem but it simply got stuck. I did every trick in the book but it seems to work a bit and then stop. I am tired of taking it apart all the time so I was wondering if there is some place to which I can send my "crazy" odometer so it will be rebuilt? Perhaps there are places where I can buy a rebuilt odometer? Thanks for your help!

It may be the OD number wheels not seating to one another. Did you add a thin washer to them when you rebuilt it to tighten up the space. The od number wheels shrink over time. VERY common issue. Here is a great guide to use. You can do it...one more time.

After having the pod off 3x I am now done trying to fix the OEM speedo/ODO. It worked for a while then nothing. Speedhut will make a customizable unit that fits our cars. You can personalize the unit on there website with top MPH, script type, face color, etc. You can even put "928"on there if you like. I ordered mine similar to the one below and had them delete there factory logo and put the "MPH" just above center like it is on our cars. It even performs 0-60 & 1/4 mile times and it all is run by GPS. If your not in a hurry, should be installing the gauge this week and can take some more pics. Search over on RL: '84 speedometer/odo GPS fix. T Gauges, Custom Gauges, Tachometers, Speedometers, Shift Light, Pod T

I know its frustrating. I rarely do anything just one time. Read over the go by and see if your OD wheels just happen to move JUST far enough apart they are not making contact. You don't want it tight but not so loose they bind up of just don't make contact at all.
Post pics when you have it apart. There might be something else happening but I bet its the slop in the wheels.

Just received the speedo/odo. Note the Speedhut logo and MPH GPS were deleted from the bottom of the gauge face on the updated pic below. I moved the "MPH" just above the center pin as on our OEM units. Went with a 160 mph gauge face because I wanted 80 mph centered up top. Pretty sure the digital readout will go much higher if needed. If ordering one of these units, make sure it comes with the external reset button because the OEM gauges are behind a plastic shroud on our cars. T

Not yet. They shipped the unit with the reset in the casing so I have to reorder with the external reset button. Also going to wait until I can get the pod back out and measure the opening. The 3 3/8" looks a bit small and might go with the 4" but won't know until I get the pod out and have another look. T
