fuel pump

Anyone ever buy anything other than a Bosch fuel pump ? I have to replace mine and I see there are other one's on Ebay a lot cheaper, I hate to spend so much if there just as good.

I would say they are not as good......but......#30 had no fuel pumps when I got her....I bought the 40$ ones on eBay.....(1) failed, but I believe I did not prime it. I replaced it with another ho-chi-Minh pump, and so far so good....it has been 2 years, and they are both still pumping....of course my car has not been driven on the road as of yet...so I cannot attest to their performance.

I would say get the right one the first time, and you will probably have (1) less thing to worry about....

I've bought the 200$+ pumps and can say the next one i'll buy would be the chinese crap. I've had bosch fail because I let them sit too long.

as per performance If they match the flow rate. I don't think you'll run into a problem unless you go forced induction. But then that's a whole different can of worms...

i replaced mine three weeks ago...and while tempted opted for the bosch as it was replacing the previous bosch pump that had been on the car for 6 years prior...also merlin, bob and everyone else who's advise that I have come to trust recommended the bosch so....bty I should take this opportunity to thank those who recommended grinding down the 17 mm wrench so that it can fit between the electrical posts on 88's pump...brilliant

I'd keep a $40 pump as a back up (like a temporary spare tire) to change on the side of the road and get me home.
Only reason my last Bosch died an early death was because it ingested parts of the plastic strainer located inside the fuel tank.

So what's the forum's take on the new Bosch pumps having a greater fail rate now that they have been out sourced.
Was a concern on the other forum. I ended up doing a draw test on my current one and not using my new Bosch pump yet.

Buy from a trusted vendor and let them jump all over Bosch if it fails. Bosch is certainly more likely to fix their problems than some ebay source that can just change their name and keep selling junk.

Besides, if there was a reliable non Bosch pump, one of the reliable vendors would be selling it as well as the Bosch.

i have purchased the delphi pump and it works, but the ports of the outlet look small and i doubt they would properly supply a higher power output..i will be putting something different on it next summer...but i will be plumbing all new line(-8 supply and return), so i can go with anything out there..aeromotive will probably be my top choice.

Go big or go home is the saying. Post a thread when you re-plumb everything; I'm curious to see your setup.

Larger diameter fuel line, means slower flow, more time in the lines to heat up. Tinker with Porsche engineering at your own risk.

Buy from the known sources and you wont go wrong.

I've used AZ Auto Haus for my pumps, but they we're "always" Bosch. Never had an issue. Lot's of Chinese copies out there on eBay, they may last, they may not. It's just a gamble most of us aren't willing to take. Plus buying from a known good Vendor means it will fit as it should without any modifications.

Some folks have bought Walbros pumps to replace originals. I have no knowledge of reliability or history of these pumps, but I know it's been done.

Yes, Walbros are excellent fuel pumps, except you need to modify fittings. I guess the point I was trying to make is that buying from know vendors using the Bosch part number for an exact fit.

Plug n Play

In the end I'm just going to buy the Bosch not worth taking a chance.

Shouldn't have to prime it, gravity will do that for you, it's under the tank.
Probably just another dud pump.

Could be....but....the instructions said not to pour out the fluid that was already in the pump....well, I saw that a little late....put the pump in, and it did not do squat....luckily, it was the "easy" one to get to, in the fender, not the one under the tank....lol.....

Any way, I have 120$ invested in 3 pumps, one dud, the other 2...so far so good...

I saw a real nice looking pump, made by an Israeli mfg., I think it was a Haig? Can't remember, but it looked promising......
