How much are three brand new chrome center caps worth?

The center caps are off a 1987 928 S4. What are they worth? I have a fourth one, but it has no attacthment ring. The fourth one is brand new as well.

I sold an identical set of these chrome center caps on Ebay in February for over $250 for a set of four. You need to buy a single POS center cap just to obtain the backing and have it welded onto your chrome cap with the missing backing. Then you can sell all four caps on Ebay for at least $200 +.

Could I really just weld the a ring on? I have a center cap that is just an extra, so I might just do that if I can get 200 dollars for them. Thanks!

I would leave the repair to the buyer. and exactly how much they sell for is always a guess.

Absolutely. Take the cap to an experienced welder and have him use the exact same method as the OEM caps to reweld the other one on. And yes, polish them up really nice and they should easily bring $200 on Ebay.

+1 putting together a set of four.

As to the repair, take a look at the back of one of your caps. They're actually not welded. There are 3 posts that hold the ring to the cap. Just have to flatten the posts to hold the two pieces together.

Hurm... I see the three post. (I'm using my old center cap) How do I get the ring off though? Can I order just an attacthment ring, and snap it on there?

I would doubt you could just order the ring. I would have to assume it comes as one piece with the cap, but I could be wrong. I think steve911 was trying to tell you to carefully remove the ring from the junk cap and then try and snap it onto the good one. To ease it on, you could probably pinch the posts a little bit to make them skinny enough to mount the ring. Once it's on and over them, carefully flatten the tops of the three posts to secure the ring onto the good cap.

How do you get the ring off of the old cap? The same way. Pinch the three posts until they're skinny enough to slide the old ring off. There ya' go. Steve911, correct me if I'm wrong here. I'm sure you might have a better solution......

Yes! I did it. Sorry to the so-so pictures. I took them with my phone. Now to Ebay! Thank you for all of your help guys! In the second picture, the ring is on really tight, the two holes where it looks loose is were the center cap tool removal goes, lol.

Polish them up real nice first. Then place all four of them on a black surface and take a really great picture of them. Try posting them in the Pelican classified Porsche parts section and also on PCA.org's classified parts section first. If no response on either one of those sites in a week, then start them at $1.00 on Ebay and run them for 7 days. Set your reserve price where you think is fair (say, $100 for example), then sit back, relax and reap the profits.....

Best of luck, Todd
