Questions on a 928
I've been looking to buy a 944 and have no luck. High prices, timing belts ignored for well over the proper amount of time or some other "story" behind each car. I was thinking about looking to get a 928 but a porsche tech tells me they are plaqued with problems (electrical mostly) and will be a money pit. Is this true? Is anyone selling a red one thats automatic?
Thanks Moedbc03@gmail.com |

There are Porsche techs and then there are 928 techs. It is true that a neglected 928 can be a real money pit. Even a good one will always be a more complex car than a 911 or 944, more like a 993 or a 996 I would think. Way faster than a 924, more comparable to a 944 turbo, without the lag.
I wouldn't want a mechanic to work on a 928 who didn't like them. Personally, I think you are a 944 guy. Way different league, and in that way your mechanic is correct. |

I have no trouble finding fixable 944's for almost nothing, $1000 to $2000, where are you looking for one at?

944 is a nice fun, and dare I say, practical little car. Fairly good cars sell for almost nothing if you can do the mechanical work yourself. Same as the 928 what works best is a garage full of of them sorted into parts cars and projects.

I wanted to buy one for the wife, but she say she can't tow her horse trailer with it.
She wants a late model Dodge diesel PU. Women! |

I agree with Mike. Very good, solid fun little cars, and a great way to get your feet wet in the Porsche world, as an affordable project toy. I thoroughly enjoyed my 944, and built it up from pretty much nothing but a $1000 junk project, that needed alot of attention. After about $2000 to $2500 put into it, & alot of learning wrench time, ended up trading it title for title for my AWESOME 928!!! Could not have gotten here without my 944, that is where it all started!!! I will always think of her... ![]()
