Originally bought the LR 65 and was running it on my freshly rebuilt 2.5
Was very laggy and car was awful off boost and then when boost hit it was like a light switch. I have since went 3.0L and sent the turbo to Charlie at Evergreen. He lightend both wheels and installed new oil seals and now this turbo works great. Virtually no lag now with the 3L. Car runs like a V8.

I wouldn't even use a 61 on a 2.5 with mild work especially if its a street car. I would go with there 48 or 54?? Whatever there sport turbos are, this way you can achieve 16psi bye 3000rpms cause that what you want in a street/track car. Those big guys are like more than twice the cfm's of a k26 and are made for 400hp monsters which is unusable in the real world street use

Garrett recommend GT30 with 0.49ar....to spool at ~2500rpm.

@Gordon - Just an FYI, the Rogue MAF is a 3" inlet, not 2.5

I also wouldn't go with anything that big on a stock 2.5. Without a stroke or bore, the lag will be pretty bad. Stick to the 53 unless you plan to do engine work.

Just my .02

The LR 53 works very well on a 2.5 with 3" down pipe and exhaust. That is what I have on mine.

If you are going for an integrated system (maf, turbo, etc), have you looked at Vitesse? I have not used Vitesse, but I like the idea that they have a fully tested stack that is well matched together.

The Lindsey turbos are ancient old-tech from the '80s. I'd go with one of the Garrett GT or GTX series turbos. Decades and lightyears ahead.

Has anyone here actually properly installed a GT/GTX Series turbo. It's not that simple..

I've got a brand new LR 61-10 that I'm tempted to put on my 2.5 along with a MAF kit and 3" downpipe but I think it really needs a 3.0 to work.

Blade7,

With that 61-10 turbo it will spool up late past 3500rpm. Really will need some headwork and valves to get more flow for improved turbo response and power from idle to your redline. Turbo will be great after 4000rpm. Suggest a -6 for best all around drivability...pm me..

later...

The 61-10 was aquired to use on a 3.0 I've got most of the parts to build, but the original 90k 2.5 is running great so motivation is low to pull it to bits at the moment. I have read of people using a 61-8 on a modified 2.5 but perhaps the -10 hotside is a little too big for a 2.5 road car.

Isn't that turbo equivalent to a GT35 in size? If so, way too big for all but 1% of 2.5 turbos. In fact 1% is too many. Make that .1%

Probably, but I keep looking at it all nice and new in it's box... Same with the new Carrillo rods, S2 crank, and 2.7 engine. It's just the small matter of the missing pistons, liners, exhaust, clutch, standalone etc between me and 400 bhp/torques.

How are the bores in that motor? Are they stuffed hence the sleeves?

There's zero scoring on any of any of the bores, they're all smooth and seem to measure within tolerance using my basic telescopic gauge and vernier. However there's a very slight ridge at the top of the cylinders which I think means the bores may be slightly oval ? Rather than liners I'd prefer to just have the bores honed and lapped but I read horror stories about incorrectly finished Alusil bores and the coating falling off aftermarket pistons, even with proper clearance.
