1991 911 Tiptronic to Manual Swap Questions/Feedback

Hello! New to the forum, but not to Porsches, I've had an 83 928 for a while and I just recently purchased my absolute dream car, a 1991 911 C2 Targa. It is currently a Tiptronic and I say currently because I am getting parts together to 5-speed swap it over the winter. I have searched the forums and read basically every thread I can about this but I am left with a few questions I'm hoping to get some feedback on from people who have done the 964 tip to manual conversion.

1) What would you roughly estimate the swap took you labor time wise?
2) Are there any gotchas or things you would do differently if you were to do the swap again?
3) Any simple must-dos while the engine is out of the car? Not trying to while you're in there myself to death but don't want to miss any obvious ones.
4) Is there any kind of aftermarket pedal box option? Or does anyone have any thoughts or insights on how or where I can find one? So far not much luck tracking one down.

Hugely appreciate any thoughts or input anyone can offer. Excited to be here in the 964 forum as an owner. Thanks!

I've sold the trans and all the conversion parts in the past but lately, those parts have become very difficult to find. Mostly have to wait to find a usable wreck or buy from someone who has a wrecked car. Good luck with the project.

The hardest part is finding a decent manual trans without breaking the bank , pedal boxes can be found at a breakers easily .
Get a manual flywheel and clutch assembly and a clutch master cylinder and your well on your way .
Now if you require a shop to do the labor this can get pricey ..
Remove engine and trans , seperate auto trans from engine , assemble necessary parts oh yes a shift box in trans tunnel (weld-in ) install engine clutch assembly and manual trans ..install a shift rod , linkage and shifter ..
Remove any unnecessary auto trans parts ie: cooler lines and trans cooler ..
Get ready to get shifting haha , Bert

I appreciate it! Definitely looks like they are a little tougher to come across than I would have initially thought. Makes me think now is the time to do it, sure they aren't going to get any easier to find or cheaper in the future.

Thanks for the advice/thoughts. I am definitely already very ready to start shifting haha. I have/have had countless enthusiast cars over the years and have always been a manual or nothing person when it comes to fun cars. My 911 presented itself and it was (mostly) the right car at the right time so I couldn't pass it up even knowing this project would be looming in the future.

There is an extended article in Excellence Magazine documenting the entire process. It was published several years ago but likely worth the search as you're doing the exact conversion.

I very likely have the issue somewhere. Not that easy to find but will track it down if you want and cannot get elsewhere.
