Question 91 C4 how to separate engine from tranny?

I have the engine lowered and everything unhooked but I haven't yet found the way to slide the engine away from the transaxle. I'm assuming that this has something to do with how the throwout bearing is attached to the fork and/or pressure plate. (This is a pull type clutch isn't it?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

I got them apart by removing the pivot pin for the clutch fork. Was this the proper method? It seems like it is going to be difficult to reverse this procedure.

Anybody know?

Oh, and one more quick question, completely off-topic...
Were the Blue Angels at Seafair this 4th of July weekend? Just wondering...

You need to slide out the pivot shaft for the clutch fork.

John, Thanks for the confirmation on disassembly.

Concerning reassembly, do I need to slide the fork into the t/o bearing as I slide the engine into the gearbox or can I bolt the engine up tight and then get the clutch fork into the bearing and pivot pin through?

No, there is a proccedure to installing the clutch fork. You should replace the shaft, bearings and fork if there any signs of corrosion or wear. Porsche make a special grease to lubricate all the parts. DO NOT grease the release bearing guide tube or release bearing inner liner. The clutch release fork should be taped to the pressure plate in the correct position and then the trans attached and bolted up. The install the pivot shaft. Use duct tape at the upper end of the fork to hold it. Install the inner bearing onto the shaft before installation. Hold the outer shaft bearing onto the shaft with a long bolt and nut. You really should have a manual and Adrian's superb 964 book when working on this car.

Adrian Streather's book is published by Bentley, who also publish another 964 book. I'm sure Pelican can supply them, if not we can.
Check in the Pelican catalog.

On my 92 I have to keep the insertion angle just right or they don't go together smoothly. I use a jack on the end of tranny to change the angle until its just right.

Thanks to all who've helped me work on my clutch. Check out the condition of the disc in this Photo...

BTW is the updated LUK flywheel that I've heard so much about also dualmass? Mine appears to be and the flexible coupling seems quite soft. Is there a specification for deflection in these flywheels?

Thanks,
Louis
