Quick question....can the plastic steering
wheel cover be easily removed and replaced, or does it involve a big production with the air bag? Thanks in advance!

It is part of the airbag.

Can it just be pryed off? Or would that mean elaborate reprogramming of the sensor?

What are you trying to accomplish? The cover is an integral part of the airbag. There are two bolts behind the assembly that removes the airbag, leaving a gaping hole in your steering wheel.

Don...........good question. I've scraped the surface on the cover. When I bought the car, it had this shinny sticky Armoral stuff on the horn pad. Like a fool, I used a Scotchbrite pad to remove the gunk. Now its pretty scratched. I was hoping that the black cover would pop off, then I could just put a new one on. Somehow, I knew it wasn't going to be that easy. If I do remove it with the 2 bolts, does that unleash a whole can of worms? Thank you!

Nope, just disconnect the battery first. (and have your radio code handy if you need one)
Used airbags are available from us track types converting to a non-airbag wheel. You could also buy a Boxster or 996 3 spoke wheel with bag from fleabay or somewhere...

Excuse me for jumping on the back of this one.
Would this also be the starting point for replacement of the horn switch? |

FYI - 964 steering wheels are not a direct swap with 993, 996 or Boxster ones... some significant mods would be needed.

You could have the finish of the airbag cover resprayed by a local upholstery guy. I'm guessing it'll cost you less than $100.
