HZ,
Ok, I thought #23 in the diagram had something to do with with sealing the rear window ( thats the description they give in the diagram " rear window seal") and not sealing the actual top to the body. I will have to purchase this seal also then. I will also purchase the correct top seal under the wind deflector ( seal #1 in the diagram) . I just assumed the convertible top seal was similar. I am going to try and get the top mounted as soon as I get those seals ordered. Did you put any glue between the windshield frame and targa top ( where it bolts ) ? or are the bolts enough. Will reply to your PM. Thanks again |

Herman:
The gasket identified as #1 is quite different from the cab seal as it is approximately 13mm thick with the drain openings on both ends. These drain openings are reinforced with a metal insert which mates to the door seal section along the "A" pillar and the door opening. This allows water to drain from the roof top area down past through the door seal along the "A" pillar [door seal is hollow to allow water flow] toward the threshold opening of the door base area. In other words the door seal integrally works with seal #1 in drainage. Man Alive! . . . that German Engineering . . . .!!! I used the adhesive throughout as I am NOT intending to revert back to the cab design. Silicone adhesive is more forgiving than urethane rubber and can be [if needed] removed with less damage to rubber seals. If you do NOT want to bond these surfaces, you can use silicone lubricants [eg: Sil-glide, Dow Corning 7 Compound, etc.] for rubber components that will allow a good seal and lubricating to ensure less "squeaking" between. HZ,
A 993 targa pro over on rennlist ( Mike J) has been helping me out with the 993 targa top. These are some detailed pictures he has https://plus.google.com/photos/106666807984086342852/albums/5742550549617206929?banner=pwa Have a look and let me know. It appears the rear window does indeed have a rubber trim and not just window sealer. Do you have the aluminum trim riveted underneath the targa top that you can see in the pictures? |

Yes, I did view those pics and it is interesting. I, in my earlier research, did view a number of photos and referenced many various Porsche 993 Targa parts diagrams to see what was needed. I had not come across such an item. My installation did not incorporate that trim piece but merely the item #23 + the adhesive sealer all compressed when bolted down at the fastening points. It has been a solid weatherproof installation appearing to look "OEM" that I am satisfied with and have no intent in adding/changing out. If you locate the filler piece, it would be a nice addition in your conversion since you are in the "parts acquisition phase" of your project. And it is good to know you have an option. Note: What is the 993 part number of that piece? I would like to check my old references if it was missed. Good Luck, Hz ![]() ![]()
