993 Sear Wiring Harness

On disassembly of the drivers seat on my 993, I found that the 8-prong plug that provides power for the seat is missing a cover that allows the wiring and pins to be held in place. Does anyone know where I can purchase a replacement plug? Interestingly, the plug has a Mercedes insignia on it!

maybe one could contact LA dismantlers and see if they have a spair from a 993 wreck.
Its worth a try.

I remember that plug your talking about, as an aside Its possible to hardwire and splice the wiring although future seat removal may be a PITA. Remember to solder and cover the wires well or a fire would be drastic under the seat.

best of luck...

Can't help you - I need one also for a spare set of seats.

How do these things get lost anyway?

It would seem to me that the cover should be floating around in the interior somewhere.

Please let me know if you find a source.

Regards,

I found a one at my local Mercedes dealer. If I recall correctly the part number is on the plug. Wasn't cheap but it was the right part.

Care to share the Mercedes part# ?

I've looked at my cap and all it has for numbers are 9628 on the outside and 23717 3 on the inside.

Google does not help w/ those numbers.

Thank you!

I think the part numbers are actually listed in the 944 (1985-1988) part number catalog. You can get that here
Genuine Parts Catalogue - Classic Genuine Parts & Literature - Porsche Classic - Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG

Page 358 has the 8 pole connector housing part numbers. Not sure exactly which part you need otherwise I'd have just given you the part number.

Connector

The plot continues! There are not that many pages in the 944 Parts Catalog. However, on pages 271 and 272 of the PET for the 1944, Item #8 lists a 6-pin connector as 803 971 831 and the 8-pin connector as 803 971 971. Can someone confirm this to be the correct part?

Those do not appear to be right.

#17 in this looks like the right receptacle, but the info says the car needs 6 of these. And the part may just be the connector pin not the housing.

Here is a pic of the 8 pin connector from Auto Atlanta

It is not the Auto Atlanta part, since that connector is round. But, I do agree that Item #17 or #16 do look to be correct. Not sure what the difference is between 16 and 17? But, Pelican shows the parts to be $13.75, which is not too bad.

That might depend on the year range 944 PET you're looking at. There are three PET's for the 944 on the Porsche site, one to cover 1982-1985, one for 1985-1988, and one of 1989-1991. I'm looking at the middle one, 1985-1988.
On page 358 it lists two 8 pin connector housing for the female socket connector 94461211700 and 92861211701. They both use socket 99965237112 so I'm not sure exactly what the difference is between the two. Also based on the PET drawing and part number callout it looks like the connector housing comes with the sockets but I'm unsure of that. For the male pin half of the connector it looks like the base of the connector housing is 99965239540. The cap for the housing is 99965239640.

Seat Wiring Harness Plugs

OK. The cover shows to be available as special order for about $4. The socket shows to be NLA.

Here's a pic of my plug which I replaced through my local MB parts dealer. I used the longer MB part number, 009 545 53 28, and I believe the other piece used the same part # but was called the cover. I also ordered the metal "bullets" at the same time. I think a pair of complete plug sets put me back $40!

Glad that helped.
As an aside Porsche and MB were working together in the early nineties. In fact, my brother, who is an absolute Porsche nut (and has a RUF 993 Turbo R), recently acquired a 92 MB 500E which is a Mercedes on steroids built (and designed?) by Porsche.

I know this is a stretch since this post is from 2014, but I can't find the part number for the metal "bullets". I've been searching for hours.

I'm hoping you can help me out.
