A/D diagram

Any one have an A/C digram they can post or send me?

Also a picture of how the front condenser is mounted / fits?

Thinking of updating my 85 Carrera to a C2 A/C. I do not like having the condenser preheating the cooling air.

Looking for the parts to do: lines, ft condenser, ft fan wire harness.

Thank you.

I recommend you search and post this question in the main tech forum. Other's have done a big renovation of their AC without necessarily duplicating the C2 system. The biggest issue is getting enough airflow to the front wheel well condenser, the airflow of the 964/993 is much different than on Carreras.

An issue with "duplicating" the 964 AC system is the tremendous difference in the ventilation system. It's as complicated as all getup.

These are for a 993, but give you some ideas:

Evaporator
Auxiliary Oil Cooler (so you can see the inner fender plumbing/fan arrangement
Another view of the AC condensor/fan

Caution noted and strongly considered.

Not sure I understand the air flow issue as I thought the electric fan would handle this.

I could keep the front under car condenser. However, this one is air flow dependent, but I did want to take it off.

What I hoped to do was remove the head light washer tank from left front, mount C2 fan/condenser there.
Hopefully use C2 hard front /rear lines (save a lb. and less leakage).
Remove heavy rear deck lid condenser (pre heats cooling and intake air)
Custom lines where needed.
Clean and keep stock condenser and dryer.
Maybe upgrade vents to cabin.

Other options are fix stock with new lines -or- remove it and save 80lbs.

All help is appreciated.

Thx

964 and 993 have large ducts on either side of the tub, these ducts transport air from the larger central mouth to the longitudinally arranged oil cooler(s) & AC condenser then out the bottom just in front of the wheel

Is the front of the condenser "ducted" directly to the front if of the car as it's only air supply?

Or is the front to the condenser open and it can suck back in its own hot air?

Thank you.

yes, and exhausts through these vents

+1 on Don's suggestion on reading the numerous threads on A/C upgrades to 3.2L cars in the 911 forum. There are many experts that can give you good advice there. In general folks have upgraded the components of the systems along the lines of the following:

- ProCooler (better receiver/dryer)
- more modern serpentine design front and rear condensers (some folks add fans to rear condenser)
- more modern serpentine design evaporator + new blower fan motor
- new compressor (usually Sanden)
- barrier hoses for R134a freon
- other possibilities include additional condensers with fans mounted in the rear fender wells, variable speed fan controllers, under dash center vent, etc. etc.

I don't recall seeing any posts about converting '80s cars to the 964/993 system but there are lots of posts so folks may have tried it already.

FWIW, when I had my '89 I changed the evaporator + blower fan motor, added a ProCooler, replaced the (leaking) compressor, added a center vent + the variable speed fan controller. Although the system was noticeably cooler it still was insufficient for summers in the southeast. If I had kept the car I would have replaced both condensers also + adding rear condenser fans.

Good luck on your project!

Regards,
David

Bill,

Thanks for posting that picture; helps me understand more about how the 993 A/C works on my current car!

Hi Bill, The picture in post four shows two sensors mounted to a bracket under the bumper reinforcement. One is the Outside Temperature Sensor, what is the other one? Mine is missing the second sensor and I cannot find it in the wiring diagrams.
