Problem with a key
The central door locking system stopped working. The problem is that there is no code, which is usually supplied with the key's tag.
Could anybody tell how to modify (upgrade) keys for 911 (996). Keys don't "see" a car. The thing is that the tag with a line code has been lost. Due to it the authorized dealers can only change a signal receiver and order two new keys for it. |

It stopped working or never worked? This is the only key with the car? You just bought it and when it was inspected the key didn't work? What did the dealer/indy shop say?
Not enough information in your post.

All cars, no matter what brand or type, cost money to run.
If buying and programming two keys is too much for your budget, what will happen when you need tires, battery, clutch, brakes, service or general repair work? Always have two working keys for electronic type key heads, which nowadays is a large minority of cars.

I do understand, I deal with this everyday (two cars here right now with dead keys).
First, the car needs running on a PST2/Piwis to check the alarm system (and the rest of the car) and the keys. If you don't have the code number from the keys, or the Porsche tester (PST2 or Piwis) doesn't recognize them or replacing the key batteries doesn't work, you will be buying two new remote heads and having them programmed. Part of the problem is over a period of time the pressure from operating the key buttons cracks the circuit board.

Right - you need the tag with the codes, otherwise you don't know what to import into the alarm computer...

All this electronic stuff is utterly ridiculous. How can we get involved with the newer cars and eliminate this ridiculousness? Wind up windows were great. One lock on the drivers side was fine. A simple radio with one knob for on-off and volume and another for tuning was more than sufficient. If you really want something useful, Wayne, write about eliminating all this suff that has nothing to with basics. Fast simple cars keep me with the old stuff, but if there was a way around all this gizmetry I'd try the new generation stuff.
