Question 2003 996 Targa - Hatch won't open...

I'm new to 911/996 world....this is a great site and learning so much just reading random post.

Recently purchased a 2003 996 Targa and now unable to open the rear hatch either via remote or the direct button on the door sill.

I tried opening/closing the roof multiple times as realize the roof must be in full close position.

During the PPI, there were a few roof error codes in the system, but the battery was very low so the errors were thought to be connected to the battery.

Read somewhere that disconnecting the battery might clear error codes, but even if that works guess it's just a short term solution.

Seems that error is related to a sensor somewhere or an interlock issue. I really enjoy the Targa roof but hoping this isn't the start of a messy (expensive) situation.

Any advise much appreciated !!

Follow-up message.....
I disconnected the battery to clear the codes.
It worked......meaning the hatch opened via the button on the door sill. I then gently closed the hatch and the solenoid latched it and closed it down to the home position.
All was well.....except when I pushed the button again (or the RC) the hatch didn't open. Seems like it doesn't know it's in the closed position or it thinks the roof is open, which it is not.
So not sure what to do next.....sure hesitant to bring it into the shop.....I'm afraid what it might cost to diagnose/fix.

If anyone has ideas, look forward to receiving them. THANKS !!!

I think that a similar problem was posted over at Rennteck some time ago so you may want to search that site. Good Luck.

targa top

You need to get the vehicle on a tester to see if the micro switches are in the closed or open position at the latch. This will determine whether the back will open or not. Micro switch flexes in the latch if I remember and causes issues.
