Windshield Polishing?

Anyone ever polish a 997 windshield?

My windshield has little dots that show when driving into the sun plus light scratches from the wipers. PO must have run them when dirty.

Is there any coating on the exterior of tha windshield?

Thanks,

Mark

Not sure about the coating, but this has come up before on Rennlist as well.

One suggestion was to clay bar the windshield. I haven't tried that yet, but it seemed like a logical thing to try.

No, there is no external coating. If a clay bar does not solve the issue, Griot's makes a fine glass polish that is excellent for fine scratches and the like, and can be applied with an orbital buffer.

I polish the glass every time I polish the car, usually twice a month. It comes out crystal clear and water beads up when it's wet.

there is a film available to protect the windshield from rock chips etc. my clear bra installer told me that he carries it but it's questionable how long they last and how well they work with wiper.

i would try clay and polish the glass as suggested. then use a sealant like rain x.

I clay bar (med compound), use Jet Seal 109, and wax my wind shield everytime I do a detail.

I had a heavily pitted windshield on my old 911SC replaced for free under my insurance.

I've seen this on the 997s, and I don't think is the normal pitting caused by tiny debris on the road either, if you look on the black part of the sides of the windshield, those little spots are uniformly spread across the windshield, almost like a coating or something that was sprayed on it. I think this is a design flaw in the laminate material they used or something. It sucks in the early morning and evening. I'm curious whether the warranty would cover correcting it or replacing the windshield.

I wanted to update you on the windshield on my 997. This car is a CPO car and the argument was that the glass had a defect in it. In my case, it wasn't pitting. The dealer tried to polish it twice by two different vendors. They ended up replacing the glass - they said it was rare and CPO normally doesn't pay for glass.

There's lots of products and techniques for cleaning glass (headlights, taillights and windows). They use the same posting and query software as our forum. Great site on all aspects of exterior maintenance - lots of data, like here.

I have almost completed an analysis of paint repair on my oxidized 911 and I found the site quite compelling. Quite daunting since there are 5000 products out there and everyone has their personal preference.

Autopia Car Care Products - Car Detailing Supplies, Car Wax, Car Polishers, Auto Detailing then Forums

Give it a shot.
