Chad,
That is as large as my Video Camera will take.... I have not stepped up into the Digital Camera age yet... Still using good old 35mm Film.. Sorry... You could enlarge them a bit if you want. But the quality might get fuzzzy.

Do these work through the window? I notice you have a hole cut in the lexan(?). I made my own lezan rear quarter windows and want to make sure it will work.

They will, but it may reduce the distance on the Infared beam...
I had the whole cut out for my hotlap System.... That one wuld not go through the lexan consistantly. I dont think you would have a problem with this unit. It is better then the hotlap.

jpnovak-
A friend of mine (Kevin) ran at Las Vegas last month shooting through the glass without any problems. I think by doing that just depends on the placement of the Transmitter to the track etc. It probably cuts down on the range a bit, but he never missed a lap. My dad has his mounted behind his left shoulder on the pillar. He made an aluminum base and screwed it into the pillar and used velcro/ zip ties to attach the IR receiver. I will post pics of his after he gets back from his vacation.

Chad,
Thanks for the quality service, the quality product, and the low prices. Received mine yesterday and installed it last night. Can't wait to try it out this weekend at Buttonwillow. In playing with it last night, it seems like the receiver is ultra-sensitive (or the transmitter on a 12V gel cell is ultra-powerful), and there were never any issues getting the trip signal through the glass. Tom P.S.: The wierdness in the display is caused by the fact that the unit is counting up, and it is changing faster than the shutter speed of the camera. The readout of lap times on the Ultra-Lap is much clearer than on the HotLap. Chad - I've got 2.5 megabyte images if you want them. T

Thanks Tom-
I can actually use these pictures you posted. Thanks again. Pop me an email after the weekend of your thoughts and I will put them on the website. I was supposed to be racing this weekend but have to work in Hawaii for a few days (yeah rough... I know) I would rather be racing. Have fun! Note: There will be a software patch coming soon (for USB models) that will change the Rider/Bike name to Racer/Car (Or something similar) on the lap time graphing software. I will post on my site once it's done. I also am placing another (bigger) order this next time because I only have 1 unit left.

Another entry level lap timer to consider is the Aim Sports timer. See www.aimsports.com
Installed a few at the track this weekend and worked really well. And the advantages of downloading to your lap top at the track is an added bonus that the others do not have. It is very competitively priced with more to offer.

Just an FYI- The Aim beacon will work with the Ultra-Lap (Not sure about split times though)
"And the advantages of downloading to your lap top at the track is an added bonus that the others do not have. It is very competitively priced with more to offer." Thanks Laura, my thoughts exactly. However, The Aim is not the only timer to do this. The Ultra Lap timer downloads lap times via the receiver's IR port. You just grab your lap top with the USB cable/IR port and hold it near the IR port on the car and download your times (no cables to attach). You then can use the Ultra Lap software to view/graph your times. You can even export to Excel. I am also working on getting Pocket PC support (so you will not have to lug a laptop to the track) The Ultra-Lap is even more competitively priced with all the basic features of the Aim. The Ultra-lap even records the track temp of each session. Even if I sold the Ultra-lap at full retail, it would be easier on everyone's wallet than the Aim. With the Pelican discount (End's Nov 15th )going on right now, It is even better on everyone's wallet. Racer's helping Racer's ![]() http://www.plavanracing.com/pelicanspecial.htm

It's now done. They made it more generic. I will post the patch on the website soon.

Yup, in my hotel room right now looking at the beach.
I have a couple appointments and dinners to attend tonight. I HATE when I have to work out here. Although, one ear still has yet to pop (I have a cold) Well, I have to go work now and pay for all the crap I just bought for the race car. Have fun this weekend. Take your 12v battery for all the Ultra-Lap users out there. You are designated the"Beacon Man" since we are not there. Race safe.

Just a quick update after the first day's use at Buttonwillow. Absolutely no issues with the receiver picking up the trigger signal through the rear window glass, as was questioned above. The unit never missed a beat all day. I am using the 12 V gel cell for the transmitter for its increased power. Haven't tried it with alkalines yet, and don't really intend to.
All I can say is that this is a nice, easy to use, reliable unit. Thanks, Tom
