On-board timer help

I am looking for an on-board timer. The two that have been recommended to me are Intercomp lap timer and the Hot Lap timer. I have seen the hot lap timer but I am not familiar with the Intercomp timer. Any experience or recommendations are welcome - Thanks

everyone I know uses hot lap, there is always someone there with a base unit for the hot lap, if you look at intercomp I would be sure it will work with a hot lap timer base unit

I don't think the Intercomp is compatible with the Hot Lap. If you go with an Intercomp, be sure to buy the tranceiver too.

The Intercomp has one advantage that being you can download the data to your PC via RS232 cable, FYI.

Cheers, james

WAIT!!!! Forget about Hot Lap and Intercomp (never seen one of those).... big boxes. You need to step into the future with an Ultra-Lap . These are new and small. You can mount them on your steering wheel. Hot lap timer beacons do not effect them so you need to buy one with the beacon.
This thing has the computer hook-ups, Temp, track name input, and more. The display measures 3 3/8", 1 7/8" tall, 5/8" thick. Big display numbers too. Plus it gives you a blink if you are faster than last lap. it also stores 2000 laps (Hot lap only 60 laps!)
This is the way to go.
The Hot Laps are nice but they have been out too long without any updates.
Now there is a better choice.
www.ultralaptimers.com EDIT and disclaimer: We liked them so much I became a West Coast dealer. These things are great!

Best of all they are complete for $239 with receiver and beacon (less than a complete Hot Lap system) or $279 for receiver/beacon/computer cable.

Chad,

That looks great. Do you use it? How long have you had it? Do you have the computer software as well and if so is it useful? Thanks for the heads up on this - Tim

My dad and myself will be ordering two of them. We have not yet used them personally, but I have spoke to a guy who has. He had nothing but great things to say about it. This is how I got this information. Otherwise, I would have ordered a Hot Lap. I'm looking forword to using the Ultra-Lap. It has a ton more funtions than the Hot Lap and it does not look like a toaster.

We have used these Ultra-Lap's personally now (I just got mine). My dad has used it the last two races. YOU ALL NEED ONE. There is so much neat stuff you can do with them (split times, lap count up or down, totally customizable. Plus, they are small and do not look like something that was made by Bill Gates in the early 70's
Two thumbs up.

Just an FYI. We all loved these things so much, I am now selling them on the West Coast. I'm in the process of updating stuff. Keep an eye on the website www.ultralaptimers.com for updates and changes. Send pm with any questions.
