Yoko Advan 032 Softs

I have a set of Yokohama Advan R032 Softs on my 914. I have run 4 hard AX sessions including a bunch of fun runs and had some street excursions with these tires - tread is almost worn off. At an AX this last weekend the tires didnt seem to be gripping as well. Do Yokohamas go away quickly towards the end of their life cycle or do you think surface was just a little more slippery? I was hoping to run these to the cords.

I have 8 ax's and some street miles on mine.
I just turned them around and expect to get 4-8 more a/x's out of them. I can't believe you have worn them so quick.

There's a reason why I'm nipping at your heels in a 1.8. I'm using my tires to make up time on faster cars. I probably have one or two AX left tread wise.

grant, the grip at alameda is pretty damn good, so i don't think that'd be the issue. what pressures are you running in them? i didn't see you messing w/ tire pressure on saturday, and the way your car looked made me think that your tires were accurate but 'skiddish'. ie, run too tight.

i too am surprised that they're wearing so quickly.... then again, you drive to events in them (which trekkor and i don't). honestly, i expect to get a full season out of my hoosiers -- and they are a softer tire.

btw, trekkor's driving sure ain't easy on tires!

I came here to get away from your mockery...JK.

Yeah, my tires do get abused pretty bad.

I was testing my new brakes and did a 40 foot front wheel lock-up. Oops.

That is exactly what happened to my A032's right towards the end of life. Mine actually started buldging as the interior belt snapped. They were great tires until they got wore down quite a bit, however for the price you can't beat the Falkin's.

They feel very different at the wrong pressure. On my car 30psi hot is the magic figure. 34psi hot can feel damn slippy. 38psi hot and the tail lets go with no warning at all.

Interestingly the Toyo RA1 (the other tire I've been usng) needs 38psi hot on my car, 30psi feels very slippery.

If I remember right, I was running pressures in the 20's.

Would they get hot enough? I know the 914 is lighter, but wouldn't you still be aiming for about 30 hot?

I have a mate with a 914/6 who runs the same sort of hot pressures as me, about 30psi for R032s and 38psi for RA1s.

I normally start around 26psi cold, it then takes about two laps on a track or 1-2km of rallying to bring them up to 30psi, before which they are a little slippy.

I ran mine this past weekend at 32 front and 34 rear.
Also tried 33, 35

Next time I'll try 30, 32 and 30, 30 and 28,30.

I called Yokohama's "trackside assistance" when I first got 'em and they said start at 35.
I wonder if that is a track pressure as opposed to an a/x.

Hmm. Just counted 104 runs on my Kumhos. Some of them very fast times from "hot shoe co-driver" He is so smooth that I doubt he had any significant wear. My son thrashed the tires and was 10 seconds slower. I'm somewhere in the middle smooth and not real fast yet.

been running 35, 37 hot mounted on 4 lug Fuchs 1978 lb 914/4
I am between 2/32 and 3/32 tread from full not heat cycled.

I doubt that my Hoosiers A compound will last that long but what the hell.

Yeah youre right Alemeda I was running 34 cold front and back. So hot they were probably way too high. Car was just letting go with no warning at all. I dropped pressures to 32 R 31 F hot at Marina and they felt a little better. I was just driving crazy there - grip when I was driving smoothly was ok. I didnt check pressures during my later runs, but car let go a couple times with no warning again. But again I was driving way to fast into the corners trying to catch the faster cars. A strategy that never paid off but was very fun!

I wont have to worry about them much longer since I have Hoosiers and fat wheels coming now! Now I'll be trying to figure out best pressures to run Hoosiers. 24 hot?

The sidewalls are so stiff, they miight even run flat.
So, I'll try 28 PSI on Saturday.

Man I thought Yoko's had stiff sidewalls. Got my Hoosiers today and they are as stiff as steel! ...and they are so much wider. Cant wait to try them soon. Wont be able to use them until my new wheels arrive.

I ran the Yok's this past weekend.
I think I placed around 8th out of 40 cars...so-so.

I ran 31 fr and 32 rear. WAY better.

One of the guys was doing something I've never seen.
He sprayed water all over his tires between runs to cool off the tires.

Seemed wrong to me...

I needed 4/10th's to catch my competition. Spray away!
Got me a half second. Hmmm.

BTW, DOT Hoosiers will be at my door by the end of the week.

Spraying does seem strange... if the hot pressure is too high you normally just let a little air out.

I’m guessing your spraying experiment brought the tires closer to 30psi, seems to be the magic figure for these tires.

What model Hoosiers are you getting?
