Looking for a Helmet... need help.

Could someone point me in the right direction? I'm looking for an open face helmet, and I'm in the dark on brands and sizes... and prices. First off, I have sort of a big head. Second, my wallet isn't as big as my head.

Any suggestions?
Anywhere I could try some on in the Los Angeles/SFV area?

I'd like to get to Big Willow on March 14th, so... yeah.

Simpson makes an open face helmet. You should be measured and fit for your helmet by someone who knows. Helmets come off in crashes if not properly fit, I've heard stories. Why do you want an open face? Sorry I can't suggest someone in your area.

I was thinking open face because i just feel more comfortable in them. I know protection is obviously better in a full face.

I think Werks II in Burbank has helmets you can try on. It's on Victory, two blocks south of Burbank. Call them first, though: 818-845-2530.

I got my G-Force pretty quickly from Apex Performance. The best part is the price: $149, and that included delivery, a Nomex baclava, and a nice helmet bag. No tax, even. It's SA-2005 rated, but the price is close to what you'd pay for a motorcycle rated helmet. I believe Apex even has a no-restock fee policy if you get the wrong size. They were great people to buy from.

They have a full face for $199.

Thanks much, Jack.
So is yours open or closed?
Do you have a preference for any reason?

Mine is open. Full face is safer, in terms of airborne debris. If it were for a motorcycle there would only be one answer. But I instruct, and an open face makes it easier to be heard when I'm yelling.

For an instructor, having your student hear you when you shout "Don't lift!" might be a safety factor in its own right.

Heat is also worse with a full face.

Ok, so I went ahead and purchased a helmet from the link you gave me. So now it looks like we can be yelling at each other when I come up on the 14th for my first time at Willow.

Thanks again, Jack.
