Lighter seats for daily driver used for AX and track

I would like to replace the seats in my 87 Carrera. I have the factory leather non-sport seats (powered drivers seat and non-powered passenger seat) and want to get a set of adjustable, lighter seats for autocross (now) and some track days (future). What seats do you like and why? Recaros seem good. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Seats are kinda like helmets, you have to try them. If they are certified they will have pretty much the same strength. There's quite a few options to decide on too, fixed race bucket or reclining, head retraints, lumbar support, it keeps going and is all a personal preference. Everyone's shaped different and you will have just as many opinions of whats a good seat. Try and find a local race shop that you can sit in a variety of them.

I mean I love my sparco evo seats in the 951. They seem to be awesome in autox and de but the nice thing is they don't wrap around the neck and head too much so they're really good for dd and or weekend driving on street.

Consider what you want to do with the car for the next few years. The advantage of good seats is the ability to use harnesses to keep you in position in the seat. That would require a harness bar, or roll bar to secure the belts. Do not use harnesses without the proper seats. If you want to get into track events eventually, a fixed back seat, Recaro or other, for the driver is a good choice. Leave your passenger seat stock so you have access to the back. If you go to the track for DE, you will then need similar seat and restraint for the passenger side; there are articulating seats for that so you can still access the back.
As was stated, seats are like helmets, you do need to sit in them and see what fits.

GTS Classics

GTS Classics has some great seats, not all of which are on the web site. Large selection of fabrics, so your car can be customized. I have their version of Club Sport seats in my 1986 911. Great for DE and AX, and used for daily driver. DAS bolt in roll bar and 6 point harness completes the package.

I use the Recaro Speed 5 (ex SRD) for the same purposes. You can mount 5/6 point harnesses, use the factory 3 point and fold the seats forward to get stuff in the back. I love them, comfortable on the street, lots of support on the track.

Thumbs up +1 for GTS Classic seats

Steffen of GTS is a long time Porsche Club supporter and very nice gentlemen to know and deal with!! He makes a full line of seat for almost every type of Porsche and driver's demands/needs> and size. I current have a set in my (see garage) 83sc/RS clone and have in the past owned others. If you have a question he is listed in every Porsche publication you read. His quality and follow up has always be top rated, he is in Texas these days and should not be hard to find. Check and of the POC or PCA publication under GTS Classic's.

Does anyone know how much the regular (non-sport) power leather Carrera seats weigh? I am trying to figure out how much my factory seats weigh without removing them from my 87 Carrera as I consider new, lighter seats. Thanks.
Richard
