Center Console Upgrade/Mod/Hack

My 2005 Cayenne V6 has been pampered since new. 54,000 miles on the odometer, a real Garage Empress.

Despite this fact, it seems the interior of Generation 1 Cayennes are prone to scratching damage. That was my case, I tried removing some double sided tape and did a real number on the recess in front of the gear selector on the center console.

Removing the flat part of center console is an easy task, eventually I will replace the scratched part with a new(er) one. For the meantime this is how I dressed up the scratched area.

I purchased a spare mat from the center console storage area (7L5 863 328) and cut it to size to fit in the little recess. I think the finished product looks much better than the scratches, of course the recess was perfect to hold small items, but I never used it much so I probably won’t miss it. The entire process took less than 30 minutes and cost $10. Actually there is enough material to fabricate two little mats so if you screw up you get another chance. If your recess in front of your gear selector is scratched up, consider this mod.

Thanks!

Well I’ve got something in the works . . . My car’s interior has three colors, grey (hard to match color), silver and black trim. I picked up a black extra center console trim in black, sanded, painted, sanded, painted and will install it to replace the flat trim around the gear selector and cup holder. Since the car has black trim this small change should look ok. . .

Stand by for photos

Grey or Black?

Here are the photos of my center console refresh project.

Which do you prefer, Grey or Black?
