There you go. At least the Ice Gemballa has a serious RuF engine in it. If you look at it long enough, it may grow on you. They actually have appreciated though.

The car doesn’t look terrible. Mostly cosmetic 80’s gaudiest needs addressing. Replace the red interior with black dash and black shin guards. Get black sport seats. Replace the gaudy red gauge face plates and trim.

Keep the red/old stuff with the car for provenance ....

This car had a tan interior, white gauges, red steering wheel, and “red accents” throughout when I got it:

^^^ I started typing and then got called to Breakfast. We have the same idea Matt. Scary!

I think the Pippen car is an easy fix.
Have a professional dye the interior all black, send the gauges out to be restored, install factory or RUF front and rear bumpers and valance and you’re done.
But 800hp in a convertible is a little scary. It needs to be turned down just a tad.
I’m not 100% sure, but I thought the G50 930 Cabriolet cars were selling in the $150k range??

Let’s say you negotiate $95k. Spend $15k sorting what I listed. That leaves you ahead by a good margin.

I’ll never own another convertible so don’t look for me to be that guy... [emoji16]

You’re in the right direction with toning it down, but these aren’t selling for 150k. That’s a 100k car give or take IF it were totally stock and had the correct numbers matching transmission, which it doesn’t. With all of the work this needs to get it back close to resembling stock, and you’re still left with a car without the correct transmission and most likely an after market pair of brake vents. I.E. the body will never be original again. I would say it’s a project worth contemplating IF those are factory brake vents, which I highly doubt. This only appeals to the hot rod crowd as is, and even then, some money needs to be spent on the interior so you don’t go blind while driving it. The OP seems to be into it for not much because of all of the recognized money bleeds to make it salable again. Sol does some crazy builds, and this is clearly one of those no holds barred builds. Unfortunately for 99% of us it was taken way too far, which thus gives it negative value due to the money now needed to reverse some or all of it.

I am an optimist. There is that 1% you mentioned. Besides, I don’t have to sell at all. It won’t lose any money sitting in my stable! Besides, like I said, I am not a purist! I just love the old air cooled engines, stroked or not. I am retiring at the end of this year, nothing better than blowing the doors off a bad a— Dodge! I already showed a 600 horse Camaro, he wan’t as bad as he sounded!! Oh what joy! I’ll keep the colors guys, after all there is some folks that like it!!

matt930s 08-05-2018 10:56 AM

Good to hear you enjoy your hotrod in someway. I am one of those 1% who try to keep the higher performers than the stock ones. A built one like you have will spoil some for ever driving stock again. The body re style and the mucho red may turn some away but have they ever driven it and compared it to what else $100K might get? In my case, it is an acquired taste developed over many decades of driving some of the best other cars that did then and now cost way more. Sol @ Perfect Power is a great performance builder ( for race or street use ) and maintenance ( being able to sort thru ) high HP turbo builds, built by others. I still have some stock garage queens but seldom drive them as they seem so tame by comparison. So there, my 2 cents. I get it that CA buyers ( who by the way were at the forefront of modding decades ago ) want them like before they altered so many and some think it their preference but maybe the only way, based upon congestion/ govt regulations. Ca is not like it used to be for owning higher performance than stock cars. I'm glad ( most of the year ) to live near great country roads and great race tracks to use or drive to. Dr Porsche, I believe, would prefer them without the govt regulation stuff as Porsche always designed for high performance however selling to the masses does require compromise. I'll take being in the minority with my modded turbo's. I'm also known to Porsche club locals as Turbo Tony, I wonder why?:)

Boyd seems to have a positive attitude towards it - so it may have found the right owner.

I'd drive the heck out of it as-is. It's at least a conversation piece - and you know that there is 1 of 1 in the entire world, which is nice. It's probably fun as heck. 800hp? That thing would be like driving a 917.

Long live the "over-the-top" hot rod Porsche! I can't believe the number of guys that want to change the old 80's hotrod to a dull, mediocre stock look alike. Bright paint, interior, colored gauges, mods with lots of HP. All of this stuff makes these cars special.

Trip out. Could this new arrival in our classifieds be Robert Van Winkle's sweet Gemballa sheeper? It's an 83 cab, stock-looking engine, metallic blue with cranberry top and interior..
Edit - Even the mileage looks right! 26k now, looks like it's been off the road a long time.

Probably dresses like Crockett and Tubbs; white or tan linen or silk only.

Boy, you guys hit it on the head!! While drives this”Thing” back from Little Rock after having all the fluids changed, several tried to come up close just to see it. No luck, if the “thing” had wings, he wouldn’t have bought the jet!!
