88 twin turbo 930

Scottie Pippin 930, 3.8 L twin turbo Cabroilet ? Help on what it’s worth ? Need to sell it!

SalParadise 08-04-2018 11:09 AM

I wasn't aware that Porsche made a Scottie Pippen edition 930.

I would say that it belonged to Pippen, it means nothing. It might even make it worth less.

With that said, this thread is worthless without pics.

There's nothing to go on other than a washed-up NBA player.

88 twin turbo 930

Wasn’t there a Salmon color Carrera Targa that Pippen owned for sale a few years back?
That thing took forever to sell.

There you go. No value-added association going on here.

However I would really like to see the photos of this car.

I cannot unsee those red gauges now...

I'd say it's worth probably 1/3 of asking. That interior would make you a laughing stock at Pebble Beach (though you may get priority parking). It would fit in at the Kentucky Derby though.

Matt Monson 08-04-2018 12:51 PM

23 is the GOAT. Pippin isn't provenance. We need pics and a build sheet.

JMS935 08-04-2018 01:26 PM

This is what happens when you have so much money to blow and no clue how to spend it. Pippen made an atrocity out of this car. The interior needs to be completely removed from the car and burned it’s so hideous! If the brake vents are factory, which I doubt, then it’s a rare Porsche build under all that wasted money spent on this thing, and someone may be interested in salvaging it. But if the brake vents are aftermarket, and added with the rest of the build, then you can’t even properly return this car to stock. It doesn’t have its original transmission either, though if it does have the G50/50, which I assume it does based on the ridiculous 800hp claim, then that has some redeeming value since that’s a coveted transmission by many.

First things first, you need to come to the realization that this car is worth less than its factory peer, not a premium to it. It takes a very special conversion done by a very well known and respected shop to get paid a premium for those mods over its factory stock sibling. And when the mods done to a car are of the hideous variety, well it’ll then sell at a deep discount to its factory sibling. This car is just a hot mess, i.e. deep discount. If I owned this, I would at minimum need to replace the ENTIRE interior, and then un-Prototech the motor. Who the hell needs or wants 800hp on a 930 turbo cab unless you’re truly trying to make your wife a widow?!? I never understood how many 930 owners back in the day spent good money on Prototech (or the likes) to rape their rides. This car needs a lot of money spent on it just to undue all of the atrociousness it’s currently got. And don’t be fooled that a copy of an old title with Pippen’s name on it is worth anything, it isn’t.

Boyd, are you the one that bought it for 100k at Mecum a couple of years ago? If so, I highly doubt you’ll ever see all of that money again.

https://www.mecum.com/lots/CH1016-257662/1988-porsche-911-turbo-cabriolet/

To me it’s probably worth maybe half that with all of the money it needs to unrape it, but you may get lucky and find someone willing to pay for the Pippen lineage, who knows. I grew up in Chicago and idolized Pippen and Jordan as a teenager, I even went to most of the championship games during their NBA reign, and I still wouldn’t want anything to do with this car. LOL I’ve got a headache just looking at that interior again, I couldn’t imagine driving it and being surrounded by it.

Not sure that's necessarily a bad thing. Isn't that the same crowd who oohs and aahs at the 77 SUV ?

This.

No I bought the car or traded for it a while back. It doesn’t look as bad in person. Sol Snyderman in Grove Il built the car. The engine alone was over $100,000. The 930 body alone should be worth something? I’ll cover in in the garage, and every now and then out run a Dodge?

Boyd Freeman 08-04-2018 02:42 PM

Thanks guys for the input! I been reading the forum here quite some time! Great information, and some all right Porsche nuts!!!

A while back? If you bought or traded for it from the guy who paid 100k for it at Mecum, then that’s definitely not a while back. Regardless, I’m not following your reply.

I’ve used Sol at Perfect Power before, I am aware of the insane builds he has done. I’d say all 100k spent on this engine work was spent wrong, it never needed this much power. It’s insanity on a car this small and light. If Pippen just shipped it to Germany and gave RUF 100k to put into the car, then we’re talking a totally different ballgame. What’s been done to the car needs to be reversed, though, which means every dollar spent on it was a total waste of money. It has negative value, cause it would be worth more if none of it had been spent, meaning if it were just stock. And don’t be fooled by the body kit, it’s just a Better Bodies kit, it’s cheap, there’s nothing special about it. You can even see your car on their page advertising it.

D2-Turbo Front Bumper

It was an ill advised build by a guy who couldn’t contain his spending, I’m sure Scottie would like to have that 100k or so back, as he’s just about broke now a days. This Porsche left its mark, while the jet he bought wiped him out. Hopefully you don’t own that as well. LOL

Boyd Freeman 08-04-2018 03:44 PM

No jets!! I’ll just walk out to the garage and look at it every now and then! Conversation piece. Great stories to tell the Grandson! I can piece it out, and get more than I got in it!! Thanks guys!

Sol does nice work. That's some legitimate provenance. Though I'd like to see the $100k invoice on the engine. And the type number. Only way I'm seeing that number is a bunch of factory 3.8 parts including an RSR crankcase.

Boyd- Good luck on the sale. You have thick skin and are handling the comments well. Hopefully Jordan, Jackson (or Rodman) sees your ad and picks it up for as a surprise b-day gift back to Pippen.

Famous people and their cars

I used to service a 911SC Cab that belonged to Vanilla Ice.It had a Gembella Body kit and an atrocious interior as well.I took 45 minutes to get to the battery because there were 16 amps up front and a mile of gold wiring. When you turned up the volume at night the lights would dim then the car would die.Had the output of the alternator increased but it needed a 2nd alternator to run off the camshaft and he never came back and sold the car.Only 20,000 miles on it.Ciao

Funny how I can find one atrocious and the other far from it, I love the Vanilla Ice Gemballa! Maybe because one was built by a world renowned custom conversion house, and the other by a pro ball player, that's probably why. I thought Vanilla's was a turbo though?

Boyd Freeman 08-05-2018 04:58 AM

Guys, no offense taken on the comments, that’s why cars come in different colors. I also have an 86, Guards red 911 can, that some hate that color? But I like it! A Doctor wanted more speed, so he had a 1996 993 engine dropped in the rear. I know this completely destroyed the value of the car, but I bought it for a song and it is my weekend driver! Like having a turbo without the lag! Yes I , I do appreciate all the comments good or bad!! Thanks again!! Who knows old Scottie may sell some of his cows and want it back? Lol

Boyd Freeman 08-05-2018 05:12 AM

By the way, I called Sol Snyderman a couple of weeks before I got the car. Your free to call him and time! The engine had nothing but the best at that time it was built. The car was fixed with a valet switch, and wouldn’t tac but 4000 rpm in 5th gear. They blew a head sensor and due to it running poorly, smoking like a freight train and then dying, they thought the engine was blown. Sol was the man when I described what the car was doing, that solved the problem. Easy installation, left wheel off, and an hour later it ran like a scalded dog!
