No nice early turbos

Just a observation but for the past 24 months all I have seen at auction are rough or tatty 75/79 930s.

I have never seen a nice 75 930 come up for auction barring the CPR restoration.

I’ve probably seen less than 20 truly nice 76/77 930s come up for auction in the past 20 months really past 10 months the 930s have been pretty rough and tatty..

Gosh 78/79 930s nice clean examples.. Good luck I understand that these were the most bastardized years due to their floating rotor setup and its lager 3.3 intercooled displacement that said about every 78/79 930 for the past 30 + months has been a very tired tatty 930.

I’m interested to know how many supremely nice early 3.3s are on the BB..

Is there a concourse level 75 on the BB?

Would be really interesting to know.

Looks like Sloan is down to 4 930s

Classic Low Mileage Porsche 911 Turbos and 930 for Sale | Sloan Motor Cars

I know of a 75 that recently sold. Pristine, low miles. $400K.

Ok just found this 77! Beautiful.

Would look really spectacular next to my 79.

My guess is that the market has softened a bunch from the 2015 highs. The big time collectors with the supremely nice/concours cars know this and have no reason to sell at this time.

Sloan hasn't been the same since Richard Sloan has passed.

Couple of nice cars sold at Monterey this year. This car beat estimates (probably due to the pasha interior).

930

Bat used to get a few decent 930. Many changed hands for buyers to keep & not fix up for a quick flip. So how many are going to sell now that the market has receded when they did not sell when they were more in demand? Just like in the good old Gullwing, Ferrari ,Muscle markets when things softened. Then market prices improved and walla, out came the good stuff again. Like Techweinee posted there are nice ones around just not easily up for grabs. Recently got a call from Starkey looking for a certain 930. Buyers for nice ones are still out there and the supply is also out there, just recently not on BAT or other obvious places. Networking may again be the way to go. The one you could have ordered new, was most likely made and is out there. Roll em up and pry it from the current owners hands.

You are telling the collector equivalent of a bench racer that if he's serious he should put together a team and go mount an IMSA campaign.

Very true. They are only original once. To make sure to get what you are paying for, best to look very carefully beyond, low mileage, one owner, original paint. I looked at a 77 930 with that description and underneath it was a salt driven mess with under 30K miles that was at best a parts car, but actually looked good in photos.

That is my point Tony. Many want original paint cars with all the stock equipment intact. Problem is many of those cars are misrepresented or have a price tag that is unattainable by many enthusiast. Best is to look for one that has been cared for that fits in ones price range. I'm not saying that a barn find can't happen but even then a handsome amount of cash may have to be laid out just to get the car to an acceptable visual and working condition.

930

I have a rare 1978 930 PTS and ITS
Owned it many years, pure stock, not a restored car w/o sunroof
Might put on BaT or Auction house

That’s a beauty. Good luck with BaT, you may need it. They just turned down one of my 930s, and it’s in damn near mint condition.

From looking at some of the junk they’ve had on there of recent, I’m starting to wonder if BaT actually stands for Bring a TrainWreck. Here’s a quote from their website...”We pick the winners and save you the trouble”. Yet this doesn’t seem at all accurate to me, they just turned down one of the nicest turbo cab’s while they’ve got this POS running live right now, it’s a mess. This is the equivalent of finding the absolute worst example of a turbo cab currently offered for sale, not at all like ‘picking the winners and saving you the trouble’. This 930 probably comes with nothing but trouble, thus Bring a TrainWreck is starting to seem more apropos.

Did they explain why they didn't want your car? I'm wondering if it might be too good a car and they didn't want to deal with a likely RNM. They're a bit of a victim of their own success at the moment, it could make sense for them to go for middle market cars instead of cream puffs.

Very nice one, someone added later 930 brakes too which is an improvement worth doing.
