1984 non factory turbo look w over 200K miles
i hope I'm not opening up a can of worms but what do you think my car should go for$? Had it since the 1990's. Body metal finished and factory turbo parts. Full leather interior except for dash.... I have an estimate of $12K for rebuilding the 3.2L, a little more to make it a 3.4L. Metal finished repair to right side fenders from fender bender and slight mismatch to the paint. Also repair was done by original shop but they masked the trim to do the paintwork, originally it was windows out conversion. So you can see there is paint on the front and rear window rubber. Everything else is good on the car. Runs and drives well, but it does have over 200K. TIA for your positive comments and well meaning negatives????? Ha ha! This board can get scarey! Just what would be a reasonable price for the car. I may think its worth more than what the board thinks. I may have to adjust $, rebuild the motor first, or keep it. Just asking!

The rebuilding of the engine and fixing a few more things while your in there could easily go over the 12K estimate and will raise the value of your car maybe 5K to at the most 10K

I also think 35K would be lucky, but possible. I would think it would be total dream land to go beyond that.
30K would be nice. and it would be hard to replace it for much less than that. |

I agree with Ficke, I’d ask 35... I reviewed the ad on BAT. Interior looks good with sports seats. Actually if someone got this for 30 and put 10 in motor, you’d have a pretty nice car for 40k. Using 1 quart every 1k miles isn’t bad. Could drive for a bit while you save for motor work. Tim

Don’t let it go for less than $40k. You’ll regret it and you’ll never replace it for less than that.

Probably everyone is right where this car should be at $35K, but I'm going to say $29K, because there are positives and negatives.
1) It's a '84 Carrera that's been modified. The bodywork or flares in many ways contribute to the looks of the car, but do not add value to the car. That's my opinion, because the paintwork mismatch and some other things are going to eat the value added by the steel flares. So it's a draw here. 2) The high mileage is going to give the car a hit, and when you have an estimate for a rebuild people are going to know it's going to need a rebuild - which is great because you're being honest. $12K is probably right. 3) At the end of the day, it's a high-mileage '84 Carrera that been modified that needs work. That's why I believe $35K is optimistic, because I would rather pay $42K for a '84 Carrera that doesn't need that work - and has less miles. There is only a disparity of $7K. To the right person who wants the 3.2 in Turbo look but doesn't want to pay for a real Turbo look it's probably a bargain. To other people it may present an opportunity, and some may say that $29K is too cheap, but it is what it is - a modified, 200K mile car. |

I don’t get it. Aren’t you already past the point of contemplation on this? The auction is live. The reserve is already set. What am I missing? You can’t arbitrarily raise your reserve price mid auction, nor cancel it either once listed that I’m aware of.

I can be conscience of what the board feels is the range for a fair price. I can accept a lower price if I'm convinced of that? I don't do this often so I'm relying on those in the know!

What we mean is that you're now contractually obligated to sell the car of it goes above the reserve price. You have no more choice in the matter, so posting here is a head scratcher.

I’ve got a 1975 widebody with fresh bare metal re-spray, rebuilt 3.2 motor and transmission, although it’s not for sale, I wouldn’t sell it for 50K. Putting it back together now. Just for perspective.

Good news is you have it on the right venue.
However i wouldn't pay more than low twenties for the car. No rebuild, no mention of whats been done in terms of regular maintenance, and bad body work. You might get a sucker on BAT who is willing to overpay. But the G body market is flatlining, with lots of speculators dumping bad cars and owners who didn't do their homework who still think its 2014. The 12k quote for a re build is meaningless without the specs / quote sheet. Like the OP said $29k is right and IMO where it will land. Best you should hope for is to grab a newbie whos willing to go through the spanking machine on a first Porsche. If it hits anywhere above 25k take the money and run.
