FS: 2.4 liter 911 E motor-$4500

I purchased this motor several years ago from Performance Porsche in San Diego for a project I have decided not to complete. I have a statement from the Performance owner that "I have known and maintained this engine for many years and when I removed it from the car, to install a bigger engine, it was running very well."
Cold leak down was 5%, 4%, 5%, 0%, 4%, 4%.
40IDA Webers.
911/52 case. No engine number.
No clutch or pressure plate.
Includes heat exchangers.
$4500.
Located in Berkeley, CA.
Could possibly deliver to San Diego or in between. Will not ship.

Best deal I've seen on an engine in a long time. I would have gotten it and put it in, and then shelved the 2.7 for a bit. I hope it went to a good home.

Thanks for knocking me out of my misguided funk. The 2.7 will live this Spring!

Nothing wrong with your thinking at all. I’ve got a 2.2 E in my 75. It’s perfectly happy.

Maybe, maybe not, sure the seller could have gotten a little more, but the classifieds of the Porsche world are filled with guys trying to get "top dollar" and sitting on their engines. This guy priced it right and sold it, quickly, there is tremendous value in that. Everyone loves to surmise what engines are worth but most have not sold one, at least not many. For example, I bought a 72T a few years ago that had a running 930 motor in it, we pulled the motor, after taking a video of the car driving. Everyone, including my mechanic said I should get between $25,000-30,000 for the motor. I priced it at $20,000, it took six months to sell and I sold it for $14,500. That's reality, not arm-chair quarterbacking.

It's true. There is always the logistical barrier of selling engines, not to mention myriad horror stories of truly hideous packing/palleting that destroys things and then the buyer/seller go at each other on the forums. Then there are real numbers that are disputed, and then there are motors that sh**t the bed when they are installed. I guess it's always best to have a known piece that you know what went into it. If I still lived in California it probably would have been a deal.

It’s all bench racing unless you are the buyer or the seller.
