I like how the seller is sticking to his guns that the car has never been in an accident even though there is a bolt sticking out of the “shark fin” rocker and as one of the commentators pointed out there is still a tab on the replacement fender.

I was very interested in that car. Exact color way i want and its local.

But the seller is trying to convince everyone that a decklid crease was reported as an insurance claim, yet the problem was not corrected until 2018.

Ha. I'm enjoying your continuing attempts to get info from the seller. I had a similar dialog come up with a longhood 911 where the seller was not being forthcoming about replaced sheetmetal and the peanut gallery jumped in to defend the seller. BAT is an amusing environment. But the fault doesn't lie with the site. It lies with the peanut gallery.

It's funny because the community has responded as i hoped and of course all is not what it seems. I do think the seller is smart listing it on BAT , evinced by comments where the act of asking very basic questions, is questioned.

I wonder if anyone has compiled a BAT grudge page.

It’s a pretty poor attempt (in my eyes he seems to have convinced more than a few) to obfuscate the truth saying that something that was fixed in 2018 somehow shows up on Carfax in 2008. How do people think Carfax works? Someone called them up in 2008 and said “hey a tree branch fell on my hood and made a 7” crease, I’m not going to file an insurance claim or fix it, just wanted to let you know”

Anywhere else but BAT it would get shredded in the comments. But over there it's the 'be quiet. Its pretty mentality'. Stance does look good though and the d90's really work with the cat at RS height.

One thing i noticed today. The seller avoids any pics that show the right side of the decklid and rear quarter panel. He shows other spots but not that area. I'm guessing thats deliberate.
Checked the garage that did the work. Not a Porsche indie, so i'd be wary of the 're seal'. Looks like the accident is buried, and today someone asked about mileage, felt like the seller was not really responding directly

I'd have a chunk of change ready for potential problems. I think where it is now, plus the costs of its needs you do better financially looking for an example with clear history.

I was rear-ended sitting at a red light. Damage was light; the car behind me was hit hard, but pushed forward and only mildly scratched my rear bumper. This was on a 12-year old RX-8 with 120,000 miles.

I'm sure it shows up on Carfax, as there was a claim. But I decided to live with the small imperfection and pocketed the money. Not sure this is the case with the cited example, but it does happen.

It happened with a 930 I recently bought too, I have no idea about the BaT auction you’re all talking about as I haven’t tuned into it, but it does happen. The car I bought was in a very minor fender bender 17 years go, it was so minor that there was no visible damage other than a small buckling of one of the front bumper rubber accordions. But because another car was involved there was an accident report filed and thus the Carfax accident notation. I’m sure the owner at the time just pocketed the insurance money as well. I just repaired this damage only because I wanted to repaint the front clip of the car since it had so many rock chips on it, so I addressed the minor damage from 17 years ago at the same time. Thus an accident that was reported 17 years ago that wasn’t repaired until 2018, the body panels and paint were both original when I acquired the car.

Not to say the auction or seller is or isn't legit in regards to the specific BaT auction you’re all discussing, I’m just commenting on the fact that this does tend to happen with accidents that result in very minor damage.

That is not my experience at all. I haven't been watching the auctions you guys are referencing, but what made my interest in BAT grow is the great level of attention to detail that the peanut gallery has and how they very thoroughly dissect anything that could be wrong with the car and challenge the seller to come up with answers.

There were some Alfas where people noticed the wrong washers under some bolts or something like that. Amazing stuff. If anything, what I've noticed is a herd mentality where if something doesn't add up people start piling up with a vengeance, sometimes picking on inconsequential or fairly irrelevant stuff.

I'm not picking on anything. im asking questions about a used car. Simple stuff like like details of any accident damage, the actual number of previous owners, what was actually done to the car since the seller acquired it. Some of the OP's comments in the thread ironically suggest i should not do that. As if asking concise questions about a used car was in some way wrong.

It's all moot now thanks to the broader Porsche community and the sellers video i have a very complete picture of the car. I love the colorway but the purchase cost added to the cost of its needs far exceeds its value. I believe you could find a better rebuilt example with a cleaner history for mid 60's

Unfortunately that's the only way some flippers can turn a profit. They buy a pig and put some lipstick on it, and then not fully disclose what this lipstick is covering up.

The whole thing is like watching a train wreck because like the OP i know this car is a tracked out, TMU car that needs a split case re build and complete suspension do over prolly $30k spend minimum without even addressing the potentially dodgy body work.

I’m sure it’s a sh|t show, as many of these BaT auctions are. Sounds like it’s another Bring a TrainWreck. Good thing BaT selectively brings to market only the best examples. 🤪

As I have mentioned in the past here, I have sold a number of cars on BAT and its been a good experience. I am bothered by the dissemination of false info, by the obvious omissions and the other BS that goes on there.

I hate to throw gas (non ethanol 93 octane) on the fire but.... I also believe that there are plenty of plants and shills on BAT. Plants who talk up the car or seller and are either in business with the seller, are friends with the seller or are the actual seller under another name. I also think there is some shill bidding going on, not vast amounts but enough to simply push the cars up to the reserve line, especially on the less expensive stuff.

I also find it interesting that they'll list 911 GT3RS's over and over none of which sell but they'll pass on some other interesting late model expensive and rare cars I have proposed.
