GT4 market

What are everyone’s thoughts on the up coming 718 GT4?
What engine will it have? Price? Availability?
Will this raise or lower the price of 981 GT4’s?

What are everyone’s thoughts of how this car will affect the market based on what we have seen in the past from Porsche?

981 GT4 will follow the likes of any GT car (non RS or limited model) most likely. There are a bunch for sale in the US right now.

As for the 718 check out this thread...

New 718 GT4? Racing may help dictate the next specification. Probably a 3.8 liter with additional performance. I would lean that direction with what I have gleamed but it is truly a mystery at this point.

My Son bought a 981 GT4 a year ago. Its been the best car he has ever owned. Red with light weight buckets. It is the top of the food chain for him as far as he is concerned.

I have put about a 1000 miles on it & can say that it is very good. Its all stock but he had me dial in the suspension with the abundance of adjustments available. The car is a rocketship on a road course. Even in comparison with my track car.

As for the new version... Rumors were out even when he found his but that did not sway him on the purchase. For one he did not want to wait, and for the other the 981 GT4 will always remain an epic car. Epic cars hold value. Take the GT3 for example... Have any of the GT3 variants been valued less because of the next one? Not hardly. 996 GT3? Still expensive. 997 GT3? even more so. GT3 RS from any variant? All held their value exceptionally. Any GT car seems to do so. I believe the GT4 has no reason not to do the same, especially because it is such a a good car. That is basically why any GT3, GT2, GT1 or Carrera GT for that matter continue to be valuable.

So I cant see much drastic effect from the next one. The next one may be somehow better (like a 997 GT3 over a 996 GT3) but that just makes more great GT cars ~ right?! Who wouldn't want that?

I don’t think the new car will make much, if any, difference in the old ones I think the economy is a bigger player there. If it goes south they’ll lose another 10-15% of their price.

First five pages for Cayman's on Cars.com are GT4s. They do appear hold their value better than a GTS version......

Looks can be deceiving. I bet most of those cars sold for $120-125k when new with a $95-100k window sticker. The fact that their ask is now window sticker doesn’t mean they held value. And especially when there are pages and pages of them for sale. Rennlist is littered with them too.

I see ads for them as well. But with that said I still believe that they have held their value to date.

When you look at say a 5 Series 2016 BMW, that sold for $80k? And now its $40k ask.... How about a '16 S-Class Benz at $110k... Now $55k... Toss in a Cayenne, a Panamera, a Boxster, regular Cayman... All of them have seen abusive MSRP depreciation.

Pretty rare to see a Porsche GT car that sees anything like that. $99k sticker GT4's are still only a 15% depreciation example.

They may drift around the depreciation curve but its still in pretty favorable territory as far as a luxury purchase.

It’s all relative. Way better value holder than most other luxury cars. But I also think they have some more to lose. They’ll be $75k in a couple more years.

I’m interested in a gt4 w LWB and PCCB in the low 70’s. As long as it wasn’t track abused.

Happy tomtrade anything I got to make a deal.

Like I said I have seen them sell in the high 70's low 80's.

If you want one with a very high original sticker and below the market, good luck.

That's kind of my point. Look at how many times some of those $90k cars have been bumped? And how many of them are there? Tons! Eventually these guys who got sucked into the initial excitement and overpaid will come to terms with the fact that they overpaid for exclusivity and now a couple years down the line nobody cares about that anymore and it no longer garners a premium.

There was a pretty big spread between the ones on the low side of the MSRP and the ones on the high side of the MSRP.

littleoldman is looking for one on the high side of original MSRP and he wants to pay less than the market for an average one. Well hell I'll make that trade all day long. The LWB's and the PCCB's were expensive options.

If you see one you like there is nothing wrong with calling the seller to discuss.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2016-porsche-cayman-gt4-22/
LWB's no PCCB's sold $84000 Do you really need the PCCB's ?

I'd bet the real market is moving lower now given the global equity markets. People list cars at prices they wont sell for all the time. "Prices that make me laugh"

I quoted your first comment because I didn’t want to muddy things up with LOM’s shopping. Yes, there were cars specc’d 20% higher but I don’t think they are the majority of the market. Though I will say people think LWB command a crazy premium. I’ll buy an aftermarket seat over that option any day. People are wack...

The PCCB's are over kill too. The GT4 is a seriously fun car. I think if you buy one and use it, the car will still be a decent holder of value as compared to any other regular model sports car. Surely it will hold value better than a common 991 or 718 Cayman.

Exactly.... I'm not really in the market for a GT4 but if I can buy one right now with those options and not been tracked for low $70's I'll buy several.
